The Rebbe's letters on Kfar Chabad — the Chabad village in Eretz Yisrael: its mission, its building and settlement, its institutions and its communal life (IK = Igros Kodesh letter number).
The village's mission and character. Kfar Chabad is to be a place with a chassidic environment and a source of spreading Chassidus (IK 1484, 8930, 4303). It stands above party politics, rooted in the land (IK 6028), and its spiritual independence and local initiative should be protected (IK 6085, 6717). The Rebbe stressed the importance of the name "Chabad" in its institutions (IK 4376) and its identity and activities (IK 5344), and the need for improvement in both spiritual and material matters (IK 4654, 6718). On impressions of visitors and its endurance, see IK 7439, 8387, 10162.
Settling and housing. Guidance on relocating to the village and keeping the community united (IK 1461); no need to inquire repeatedly about settling there (IK 3301); advice to newlyweds and new residents (IK 3729, 4230, 4308, 7904). Housing must be developed proactively and apartments assigned fairly (IK 3498, 5509, 5688, 5767, 8146, 8157, 9200); unite the old and new villages so no house stands empty (IK 3700, 4105).
Kfar Chabad 2. A second Chabad village should be established near the first, with education and integration planned from the start and swift action (IK 3472, 7397, 7398, 9087, 9136).
Agriculture, economy and industry. Kfar Chabad as a source of livelihood for Anash (IK 3495); encouragement for agriculture and keeping the village's agricultural character (IK 3277, 8131, 8149); a single representative for its farmers (IK 8143); land use and etrog orchards (IK 7069); concern about employing non-Jews in its fields (IK 8152); strengthening its economic foundations, a bank loan for tax debts, industry and storage (IK 5437, 6978, 8283, 7086); a pharmacy, a doctor, the postal branch and a generator for Shabbos (IK 4376, 5050, 8408, 9106).
Institutions. The yeshiva and its buildings (IK 4037, 8544); the agricultural and trade schools and their graduates (IK 2247, 5366, 8395, 9930); the girls' school and seminary (IK 3828, 4451, 4610, 8060, 7693); the education committee and youth gatherings (IK 6433, 8139, 8393); the mikvah and shul construction (IK 4271, 4508, 4598, 5968); managing and expanding its synagogues, and naming one after Shneur Zalman Shazar (IK 8898, 9008, 9705, 8850, 9012); girls' place in the shul (IK 4145); a sofrei stam association and a printing press (IK 9038, 10001, 6642); broadcasting and children's education (IK 10066).
Unity and governance. Unity and cooperation are the key to the village's success (IK 2242, 6793, 6411); lead it with peace and Ahavas Yisrael (IK 6190, 5783); violence must be condemned (IK 8128). Deal straightforwardly with communal matters (IK 3496), plan ahead and appoint clear responsibility (IK 5689). Guidance to the vaad, the election committee and the village secretary (IK 8217, 8603, 9490, 10217, 9753, 9949).
After the tragedy. Following the murder of students in the village, the Rebbe urged calm, strengthening faith, remaining and expanding rather than leaving, and responding with practical action and growth in its institutions (IK 3161, 3261, 3262, 4309, 4336, 4369); on fasting after the tragedy, see IK 4281.
Times and campaigns. Farbrengens and celebrations for Yud-Tes Kislev, Yud-Beis Tammuz and Chai Elul (IK 7138, 8268, 8717, 6355, 8642); the matzah campaign and matzah baking (IK 6161, 6191, 8391); the 10th anniversary (IK 8172); Pesach and Simchas Torah in the village (IK 6786, 10238); inviting residents to come for Tishrei (IK 9359). On Moroccan immigrants in the village, see IK 5605, 5713.
Supporters and friends. Letters thanking supporters and encouraging advocacy, including with President Shazar (IK 7399, 8660, 8704, 9562, 9743), and on friendly relations with the army's Central Command (IK 9833).
