מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מחנוכה והקודמו, ומובן שמצטער אני על אשר עמל בענין רופא המתאים בעד כפר חב"ד ונדמה שלא הי' תועלת בהשתדלותו, אבל מה שכותב שכל עמל שלו הי' לחנם, מובן שאינני מסכים לזה, כיון שעי"ז עורר אותם ומכתביו שלו הנמצאים בכפר מעוררים אותם גם עתה אף אלו שלא כתבו מענה אליו, וסו"ס יביאו הפירות, וכידוע הדוגמא מזריעה שנקלט בקרקע ומצמיח רק אחוז מסוים מגרעינים הנזרקים, אבל באם יזרקו רק מספר הגרעינים אלו, תהי' הזריעה פחותה כמה פעמים ככה, והנה בהנוגע לזריעה, במלות אחרות בהנוגע לעניני הרשות יש מקום לומר שהגרעינים שלא נקלטו ענינים מצד עצמם הי' לחנם אף שמוכרחים היו גם הם כנ"ל, נוסף על זה בעניני קדושה ומצוה שכל פעולה ופעולה מביאה תועלת ולא רק תועלת פרטית בענינה אלא גם תועלת כללית בהגדלת האור בעולם כולו ולהוספה שאפילו מעט אור דוחה הרבה חשך נוסף על הנחת רוח שנגרם על ידי זה לאבינו שבשמים בורא עולם ומנהיגו אשר הוא שאמר שואהבת לרעך כמוך הוא כלל גדול בתורה...

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from Chanukah and the previous one. I understand your distress regarding your efforts to find a suitable doctor for Kfar Chabad and that it seems your efforts were not fruitful. However, regarding what you write—that all your toil was in vain—I do not agree with this. Through your actions you have awakened them, and your letters present in the village continue to inspire them even now, including those who did not reply to you. In the end, this will bear fruit.
As is known from the example of sowing: only a certain percentage of seeds thrown into the ground take root and grow. But if only those few seeds were sown, the yield would be much less. Now, regarding sowing—in other words, matters of the mundane—one could say that seeds which do not take root are wasted efforts in themselves (even though they are necessary as above). All the more so in matters of holiness and mitzvahs: every single action brings benefit—not only personal benefit but also general benefit by increasing light in the entire world and adding that even a little light dispels much darkness—besides the pleasure caused thereby to our Father in Heaven, Creator and Ruler of the world, Who said that 'Ve'ahavta l'reiacha kamocha' ("Love your fellow as yourself") is a great principle in Torah...

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that every sincere effort—especially in holy matters—has value and impact even if immediate results are not visible. Each positive action increases light in the world and brings pleasure to our Father in Heaven.
