After a long silence, I was pleased to receive your letter from Lag BaOmer, in which you write main points about what is happening with you. Thank G‑d for the good news regarding the health of Plonit shetichyeh; may it go from good to even better.

Regarding your writing about helping our brothers, the Children of Israel, who are in our holy land—may it be rebuilt and established by our righteous Moshiach—it is well known the words of King David—that he is alive and enduring (Tehillim 127), that when Hashem builds a house and Hashem guards a city, then the building and guarding by flesh and blood are effective. Therefore, one must always ensure that Hashem does what was mentioned above. This is accomplished according to the saying of Rabbi Abba bar Kahana and Rabbi Ami and Rabbi Assi (in the opening of Eichah Rabbah in Midrash Rabbah) through learning our holy Torah and studying it with fear of Heaven and purity, there in our holy land. Unfortunately, there are few helpers in this matter, and even those who do help do so insufficiently. Therefore, every Jew who loves Torah and mitzvos, who is imbued with Ahavas Yisrael—for true Ahavas Yisrael comes through love of Torah and love of Hashem—must support these institutions in our holy land to an entirely different degree.

If someone raises with you why your donation is not visible in various campaigns—you can answer them that it is not that you are withholding money; on the contrary, you give even more proportionally (especially since money for Torah also reduces danger and thus material expenses). You can also add that according to the ruling of our Sages: "The poor of your city come first," as well as those connected to Anash (our people) who ask me—I direct them to donate to Chabad institutions in our holy land. The work there grows ever greater according to current needs. I hope that in Kfar Chabad—where there was the fire that Hashem burned—now will be revealed the attribute of mercy which is greater than the attribute of kindness before it: an inheritance without boundaries stretching from end to end, as taught by Rabbeinu HaZaken (the Alter Rebbe), Rabbeinu HaEmtza'i (the Mitteler Rebbe), and Admor HaTzemach Tzedek (the tzt"z): "For there Hashem commanded the blessing forever."
