In response to your letter from Motzaei Shabbat...
Regarding your question on the statement of our Sages: 'Kol HaGadol MeChaveiro Yitzro Gadol Mimenu' (the greater the person, the greater his inclination), as well as the well-known story printed in HaTamim regarding Avraham Avinu—that this is due to the body—and further, what is written in Tanya that evil is transformed into actual good. It is understood that your question is not on Tanya, but rather on the Yerushalmi Berachos at its end and Hazhar (3:107b), especially since in Yerushalmi it is brought specifically regarding Avraham Avinu. (I do not bring the Bavli Berachos 61b since there Rashi explains differently, unlike what was mentioned above).
In truth, all of this should not be difficult, for the statement 'Kol HaGadol MeChaveiro...' refers to a person before their spiritual work; even when he has transformed it to good or has subdued it through fasting, it is similar [though obviously—on a very subtle level] to what is said about a Baal Teshuvah whose evil departs because of its original nature. Similarly is the statement regarding Avraham Avinu mentioned above. Another example: eating from the refined body of (a) Moshe Rabbeinu, (b) when he ascended on high, (c) regarding bread from heaven which contains no waste—and yet he did not eat it; because "if not for... one must not eat."
Regarding what you wrote about encouraging your brother-in-law, the Rav shlita, to study Chassidus—certainly you will not suffice with mentioning it once but will continue until this matter comes into actual practice and with consistency—as per the instruction of Rabbeinu HaZaken—not only consistency in time but also consistency within one's soul, which is most important.
Blessings for good news in all of the above.
Summary
The Rebbe clarifies that spiritual challenges are present before one’s inner work and transformation. He urges ongoing encouragement and consistent study of Chassidus—both regularly and with deep personal commitment—for true spiritual growth.
