HaAvrech Yitzchak sheyichyeh

Shalom u'Vrachah!

We acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 26th of Elul, and enclosed is the response for the group of religious youth. You will surely explain it to them as needed, according to their understanding and comprehension. Certainly, it is unnecessary to point out that the effort to add members is of great importance—especially from among those who have already participated in this group before, as you wrote in your letter.

May it be G‑d's will that, as you wrote that you have already tasted the fruits of your efforts in this matter, Hashem will increase His help both in your efforts and in experiencing their results; may you go from strength to strength in Torah and mitzvos, as well as in your influence in this direction.

Blessings for good news and for inscription and sealing for a good year.

P.S. Regarding your question in your letter about our Sages' statement: "Kol HaGadol MeChaveiro Yitzro Gadol Mimenu" (the greater the person, the greater his inclination), which is difficult to understand since when one rises the other falls—its explanation is: when a person is given a great soul, an elevated Divine soul according to its level, correspondingly his animal soul is also great in its traits and nature; that is, in its opposition [and this is for several reasons: so there should be no claim that victory in the battle comes only because he was given an exalted Divine soul while his animal soul was extremely weak]. After this, when he fights with the powers of his Divine soul to illuminate with "Ner Mitzvah v'Torah Or" (the candle of mitzvah and light of Torah), then initially there is the effect of light pushing away darkness—when one rises the other falls—until ultimately one can reach a level where he has no evil inclination because he has killed it through fasting, as explained in Tanya Kadisha regarding David King of Israel.

Summary

The Rebbe encourages perseverance both in personal growth and communal influence. He explains that spiritual struggle matches one's potential but can be overcome through persistent effort with one's Divine soul until negativity is nullified.
