Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from Erev Shabbat Kodesh, in which you write about your financial situation affecting your health, and how you are preoccupied with it from early morning until late at night, etc. In such a situation, you should look for a suitable partner; if the current profits of the store are not enough for partners, it is customary that the partner brings in additional resources to expand the business. Through this, profits will also increase, and in this way, certainly after some time you will be able to arrange the store's working hours so there will also be time for rest and overall more comfortable work. It is understood that a main condition in a partner is that he should be pleasant with people, etc.
b) Regarding what you wrote about your spiritual state—that you are not religious—and you list reasons for this, even to the point that you are not careful about putting on tefillin. As you wrote in your letter: you do not have time to put on tefillin because you are busy, etc. With even a brief reflection, you will see how the content of your letter contradicts itself from end to beginning: putting on tefillin is a mitzvah from the Creator of the world and its Ruler who promised great reward and abundant blessing for fulfilling this mitzvah. At the same time that at the beginning of your letter you describe how much you need blessing for increased success, you then write that you do not fulfill this main mitzvah whose reward is blessings from the Creator of the world in all that a person needs. Moreover, you explain that you do not have time to fulfill the mitzvah because you are busy with business—this is as if writing that one cannot engage in earning a livelihood because he is preoccupied with not having a livelihood.
Whatever the reasons may be (that until now you did not act according to Jewish religious practice), this does not justify continuing such conduct from now on. It is obvious that the results of such conduct—that is, lacking blessings from Hashem and success in life—remain as they are. Therefore, first of all he must immediately behave according to what our Torah—the Torah of life—demands in daily life for himself and his wife (may she live), and be strong in trust in the Creator of the world and its Ruler according to what He says in His Torah: Im Bechukotai Telechu Ve'et Mitzvotai Tishmeru... Ve'natati Gishmeichem... ("If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments... I will give your rains..."—with all the blessings listed in the parsha).
Based on all of the above it is clear that he must immediately begin putting on tefillin every weekday; it goes without saying that the tefillin should be checked so it is known they are kosher.
Awaiting good news regarding all of this,
In the name of the Lubavitcher Rebbe Shlita,
Mazkir
Summary
