Opening the Ark During Torah Reading and Customs for an Expectant Wife

The Rebbe writes that the husband should try to open the ark during Torah reading days, without drawing attention, until after the birth. The wife should add to her charity before candle lighting and also give on Mondays and Thursdays in the morning.

[1 Tevet 5713]

...And may Hashem fill the days of your wife's pregnancy properly and easily, and may she give birth to a healthy child at its proper time, in a good and easy manner. It is appropriate that, without drawing attention, you should try to open the ark on Torah reading days until after the birth at a good and auspicious hour. Your wife should also add to what she donates to charity before lighting candles—also on Monday and Thursday mornings.

Summary

The Rebbe advises specific customs for expectant couples: the husband should open the ark discreetly during Torah readings until after the birth, while the wife increases her charity before candle lighting and on Mondays and Thursdays.
