Rabbi Avraham Yehuda Duchovni is the author of the sefer Berachot Avraham, a halachic work on the laws of treifot (ritual defects in animals). He is addressed in correspondence by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, regarding his scholarship and contributions to Torah literature.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe wrote to Rabbi Duchovni in appreciation for receiving two copies of his sefer Berachot Avraham on the laws of treifot. The Rebbe praised the work for its accessible format and attractive presentation, noting that it gathers halachic rulings from both the Rishonim and Acharonim and would surely benefit many learners. The Rebbe emphasized that the merit of the public is dependent on Rabbi Duchovni's efforts in this area.
However, the Rebbe also expressed surprise and concern that in several places, the teachings of the Tzemach Tzedek (the third Chabad Rebbe) were omitted, despite evidence that Rabbi Duchovni had consulted his works in some sections. The Rebbe listed specific halachic topics and sources from the Tzemach Tzedek and other authorities that were not included in the sefer, providing detailed references and encouraging their consideration for completeness.
The tone of the letter is both respectful and constructive, offering scholarly critique while blessing Rabbi Duchovni with success in Torah study and service of G-d, as well as good health and tranquility. The Rebbe also mentioned that he had prayed for Rabbi Duchovni and his wife at the holy resting place, and included a monetary gift as a gesture of support.
