Administrations of Chabad Institutions in the Holy Land (collective leadership of Chabad educational and communal organizations in Eretz HaKodesh)

Administrations of Chabad Institutions in the Holy Land refers to the collective bodies overseeing the various Chabad-Lubavitch institutions in Eretz HaKodesh (the Land of Israel). These administrations are responsible for the management, development, and representation of Chabad's educational and communal activities in the region.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, maintained direct and detailed correspondence with the Administrations of Chabad Institutions in the Holy Land. In a letter dated 13 Kislev, 5712 (1951), the Rebbe responded to their inquiry regarding his perspective on the structure and management of the institutions. The Rebbe emphasized a dual approach: internally, each institution should maintain its own autonomy and direct connection with the central leadership, while externally, unified representation through Agudas Chabad is necessary for matters requiring a collective voice.

The Rebbe clarified that while internal autonomy is crucial, there should still be a system of oversight or control, which itself remains connected to the central leadership. For external affairs, Agudas Chabad is tasked with representing all institutions that bear the Chabad seal, but the Rebbe noted that in certain situations, it is preferable for individuals to act neutrally rather than as official Chabad representatives.

The Rebbe further instructed that each institution should have a representative on the board of Agudas Chabad, ensuring that all voices are heard in external representation. He also stressed that Agudas Chabad does not intervene authoritatively in the internal matters of each institution, except to offer advice, which the respective administration may accept or decline.

Guidance and Tone

The Rebbe's tone in his correspondence is both instructive and admonishing. He urges the administrations to take active responsibility for the welfare and growth of their respective institutions, warning against complacency and emphasizing the grave consequences of neglect. The Rebbe requests that after reviewing and discussing his letter, each institution should confirm receipt and provide feedback, as well as updates on their activities. His guidance is marked by a spirit of Ahavas Chassidim (love of fellow Chassidim) and Ahavas Achim (brotherly love), underscoring the importance of unity, accountability, and dedication to the sacred work entrusted to them.
