Young Chabad Association (Tzeirei Agudas Chabad)

This article deals with general information about the organization. For other meanings, see Tzeirei Agudas Chabad (disambiguation).

Tzeirei Agudas Chabad (Tzach) is the operational arm of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement throughout Israel and around the world. Its primary purpose is to fulfill the vision of hafatzas hamaayanos—the dissemination of the wellsprings of Chassidus.

The organization's goal is to present Judaism, in accordance with the Rebbe’s approach, to as many Jews as possible. The responsibility of the chairman in each location is to ensure that no Chassid remains uninvolved in the work of spreading Judaism and Chassidus.[1] The organization was established by the Rebbe in 1952 (5712).

Israel

Tzeirei Agudas Chabad in the Holy Land was founded at the Rebbe’s direction in 1951 (5711) as the youth division of Agudas Chassidei Chabad in Eretz Yisrael.

Its purpose is to promote and strengthen Judaism throughout the Holy Land. In a letter dated 24 Sivan 5711 (1951), the Rebbe wrote to the members of Agudas Chassidei Chabad:

“In my opinion, the time has come to organize a special department among the younger members of Anash and those close to the spirit of Chabad.”

In the same letter, the Rebbe explained that the new division would strengthen Agudas Chassidei Chabad and increase its influence among Israeli youth.

In Tishrei 5712 (1951), the organization's administration was established and its activities officially began.

The director of the organization in Israel is Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Aharonov.

United States

Tzeirei Agudas Chabad Central Headquarters serves as the overall coordinating body for Chabad activities worldwide. In practice, it unites the Chabad Houses in New York and also oversees certain branches in London and Paris.

The organization was established by the Rebbe toward the end of Nissan 5715 (1955), following the creation of Tzeirei Agudas Chabad in the Holy Land. The Rebbe personally outlined its mission and activities. Through this organization, the Rebbe transmitted many of his directives concerning the spread of Chassidus, which were then distributed to Chabad communities around the world.

The article notes that the organization does not operate within the framework of the official Chabad shluchim or the local branch of Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch, and therefore some have questioned its authority to represent Lubavitch. The matter has reportedly been discussed in a rabbinical court.

Over the years, the organization benefited greatly from the efforts of Rabbi Zalman Jaffe, together with his son-in-law Rabbi Shmuel Lew, and the chief shliach Rabbi Nachman Sudak.
