... בענין להשהות ס"ת שאינה מוגה (ע"י שינוי - לחגור המפה על המעיל): שקו"ט בשו"ת מנח"א (ח"ג סנ"ב) ובזכר יהוסף סל"ז - להתיר. - מס' חסידים סי' תתקלד - אין ראי', די"ל דשאני קרועים ומחוקים (שהוא באופן) אין מקום לתקלה. ועצ"ע.

Regarding leaving a Sefer Torah that has not been checked (by marking it—tying the cover over the mantle): There is a discussion in Shu"t Minchas Elazar (vol. 3, siman 152) and in Zecher Yehosef (siman 37) permitting this. Sefer Chassidim, siman 1454, does not serve as proof, since one could say that torn or erased scrolls are different (in a way) so there is no concern for mishap. This requires further investigation.
