Sefer Chassidim is an important work that contains laws, customs, and short moral stories. It was written by Rabbi Yehuda HaChassid. The book can be dated to the early period of the Rishonim (12th century and early 13th century). Sefer Chassidim is composed of various sections arranged in collections. The thematic connection within and between the collections is not always clear, and often seems associative. The book deals with a wide range of topics. As a work of ethics, it also includes numerous lessons on conduct related to everyday matters (commerce and finance, marriage and intimate relationships, human life, the customs of the Jewish community, and more). Its importance also lies in its value as a historical document for understanding Jewish life and ideology in Europe at the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century.
