איך בין געווען צופרידען פון דעם באזוך פון אייערע זין און טעכטער יחיו בא מיר, און בפרט פון דעם גרוס וואס זיי האבן איבערגעגעבען פון אייך (און אויך דעם פ"נ).
ווען איך וועל זיין אויפן ציון פון מיין שווער כ"ק אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, וועל איך לייענען אייער פ"נ, און איך בין זיכער אז ער וועט מעורר זיין רחמים רבים אז עס זאל מקויים ווערען אייער בקשה וואס איר שרייבט אין דעם פ"נ, בקרוב, און וועט קאנען אליין שרייבן און אנזאגען בשורות טובות אין דעם.
זיכער ווייסט איר, אז דעם יעצטיגן חדש אלול, פלעגט אים דער שווער כ"ק אדמו"ר רופען, דער חדש פון חשבון, וועלכער השם יתברך האט אים געגעבען אונז אלעמען צו מאכן א חשבון פון דעם פאריגען יאר און אויך צו אננעמען גוטע החלטות אויף דעם קומענדען יאר הבא עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה.
אין מדרש שטייט, אז דאס וואס הקב"ה הייסט טאן אידן, טוט ער דאס אליין אויך, במילא איז פארשטענדליך, אז אין דעם חדש הרחמים - אלול - מאכט הקב"ה אויך א חשבון פון די אלע גוטע זאכן וואס אידן האבן געטאן אין פארלויף פון די פארגאנגענע חדשים פון יאר (פון די ניט גוטע מעשים מאכט מען ניט קיין חשבון, וויילע געוויס וועלן דאך אידן תשובה טאן, וואס במילא ווערן דאך די ניט גוטע מעשים ר"ל אפגעמעקט און עס בלייבט פו זיי קיין רושם) אבער די גוטע מעשים וועלכע פארבלייבן אויף אייביג, איז תיכף פון ראש פון חדש אלול, מאכט מען פון זיי א חשבון, און הקב"ה וואס ער איז דאך תכלית הטוב, מאכט ער דעם חשבון בעין יפה, און גרייט זיך צו געבען פאר דעם אלע אידען מידו המלאה הקדושה הפתוחה והרחבה, אלעס אין וואס זיי נויטיגען זיך, און ווער רעט צו די אידן וועלכע נעמען אויף זיך גוטע החלטות אויף דעם קומענדען יאר, נעמט הקב"ה דאס אויך אריין אין חשבון, און דאס פארגרעסערט דעם זכות און דעם שכר פון די זכיות וואס דער איד האט.
פאריגען יאר האט איר בעזה"י פארגרעסערט דעם קרן גמילות חסד און אויך אריינגעבראכט די ספרי תורה, און האט אויך געשטיצט אין פרומע מוסדות חינוך, וואס דאס איז דאך א זכות וואס איז פארבונדען מיט א רבים, א חוץ אייערע פרטיתדיקע ענינים אין תורה ומצות וואס איר טוט אלעס יחיד, איז במילא בין איך בטוח אז השי"ת האט דאס אלץ אריינגענומען אין חשבון, און וועט אייך מוסיף זיין במדת החסד והרחמים שלו, און וועט אייך געבען א כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה, וואס אין דעם ווערט אריינגערעכנט גוטער געזונט און זאלט קאנען שטייגען אין לערנען תורה, אין צדקה, און אין תפלה בצבור.
א פערזענליכען גרוס פון מיר, וועלן אייך איבערגעבען אייערע קינדער יחיו. איך וויל דערמאנען דא, דאס וואס איך האב איבערגעגעבען מינדלעך און געבעטן אז איר זאלט איינארדנען א חסידישן פארבריינגען, איינמאל אדער עטליכע מאל, און זיכער אז בא א חסידישער מסיבה, וועט מען נתעורר ווערען מיט אהבת ישראל, אהבת התורה ואהבת השם, און מען וועט אייך אויך בענטשען מיט אריכות ימים ושנים טובות.

I was pleased by the visit of your sons and daughters to me, especially by the regards they conveyed from you (and also the pidyon nefesh). When I will be at the resting place of my father-in-law, the holy Admor zatzal, I will read your pidyon nefesh, and I am certain that he will arouse great mercy so that your request written in the pidyon nefesh will be fulfilled soon, and you will be able to write and announce good news about it.
You surely know that my father-in-law, the holy Admor, used to call this present month of Elul "the month of accounting," which Hashem gave us all to make an accounting of the past year and also to accept good resolutions for the coming year for us and all Israel for goodness and blessing.
The Midrash states that what Hakadosh Baruch Hu asks Jews to do, He does Himself as well. Therefore it is understood that in this month of mercy—Elul—Hakadosh Baruch Hu also makes an accounting of all the good things Jews have done during the past months of the year (as for bad deeds no accounting is made because surely Jews will do teshuvah, which erases them so that no trace remains). But the good deeds remain forever; therefore from the very beginning of Elul an accounting is made of them. And Hakadosh Baruch Hu—Who is ultimate goodness—makes this accounting generously and prepares to give all Jews from His full, holy, open, and wide hand everything they need. And whoever takes upon themselves good resolutions for the coming year—Hashem includes this too in His accounting—and this increases their merit and reward.
This past year you increased with G‑d's help the gemilus chesed fund and also brought in Torah scrolls; you also supported religious educational institutions—which is a merit connected with many people—in addition to your personal matters in Torah and mitzvos which you do individually. Therefore I am sure that Hashem has included all this in His accounting and will add to you from His measure of kindness and mercy, granting you a ksivah vachasimah tovah for a good and sweet year—which includes good health so you can advance in Torah study, charity, and communal prayer.
A personal greeting from me will be conveyed to you by your children. I want to remind here what I have conveyed orally: that you should arrange a chassidic farbrengen once or several times; surely at such a gathering one is inspired with Ahavas Yisrael (love of fellow Jew), love of Torah, and love of Hashem—and you will also be blessed with long life and good years.

Summary
Elul is a time when both we and Hashem make an honest accounting: our sincere efforts are counted generously above. The Rebbe encourages strengthening communal bonds through farbrengens and assures blessings for those who resolve to grow in Torah and mitzvos.
