Nachum Dov Denberg (Community Leader and Philanthropist)

Nachum Dov Denberg is addressed in correspondence from the Lubavitcher Rebbe as an individual deeply involved in communal affairs, notably in charitable and educational endeavors within the Jewish community.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The Rebbe's letter to Nachum Dov Denberg, dated 9 Elul 5711 (1951), expresses appreciation for the visit of Denberg's children and the regards they conveyed, as well as for the pidyon nefesh (a traditional petition for blessing and mercy). The Rebbe assures Denberg that he will read his pidyon nefesh at the resting place of his father-in-law, the previous Rebbe, and conveys confidence that his requests will be fulfilled, encouraging Denberg to share good news in the future.

The letter highlights the spiritual significance of the month of Elul, described as "the month of accounting," and shares teachings from the Rebbe's father-in-law about introspection and making good resolutions for the coming year. The Rebbe emphasizes that just as Jews are called to make an accounting of their deeds, so too does the Holy One, blessed be He, account for the good deeds of the Jewish people, rewarding them generously.

Communal and Charitable Activities

The Rebbe acknowledges Denberg's significant contributions in the previous year, including expanding a charitable loan fund (gemilut chasadim), bringing in Torah scrolls, and supporting religious educational institutions. These acts are recognized as communal merits, in addition to Denberg's personal observance of Torah and mitzvot. The Rebbe expresses confidence that these merits are counted in Denberg's favor and blesses him with a good and sweet year, health, and continued growth in Torah, charity, and communal prayer.

The Rebbe also encourages Denberg to organize Chassidic farbrengens (gatherings), noting their power to inspire love of fellow Jews, love of Torah, and love of G-d, and extends personal greetings through Denberg's children.
