Feigin - Ephraim Eliyahu

Ephraim Eliyahu Feigin (Torah Student and Correspondent)

Ephraim Eliyahu Feigin was a Torah student who corresponded with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, seeking guidance regarding his personal Torah study regimen.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

In a letter dated 5th of Nissan, 5712 (1952), Feigin asked the Rebbe for advice about his daily study schedule. He described his practice of learning eighteen chapters of Mishnayos each day, noting that this approach resulted in a somewhat superficial understanding and left little time for other areas of Torah study. He sought the Rebbe's opinion on how to proceed.

The Rebbe responded by encouraging Feigin to continue his established custom of reviewing all eighteen chapters daily, especially since this practice had, as Feigin mentioned, an element of a vow. At the same time, the Rebbe advised him to study a few Mishnayos each day in greater depth, according to his ability. This balanced approach, the Rebbe explained, would allow Feigin to maintain both breadth and depth in his Torah learning, while also leaving sufficient time for study in other Torah disciplines.
