Rabbi Chaim Shmarya Garelik was a Chabad rabbi and emissary (shliach), known for his communal activities and connection with the Lubavitcher Rebbe. His correspondence with the Rebbe reflects his involvement in outreach and personal matters, particularly concerning matchmaking (shidduchim) and the distribution of Chassidic literature.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe addressed Rabbi Garelik in a warm and encouraging tone, responding to his letter and apologizing for a delayed reply. The Rebbe mentioned that he had prayed on Rabbi Garelik's behalf and for his family at the Ohel of his revered father-in-law, specifically regarding matters of shidduchim (marriage matches). The Rebbe emphasized the importance of active effort in seeking suitable matches, referencing the verse, "And the L-rd your G-d will bless you in all that you do," to highlight that Divine blessing comes through human initiative.
The Rebbe further encouraged persistence, sharing the teaching of the righteous chassid Reb Zusia of Anipoli, who learned perseverance from a thief—trying repeatedly until succeeding. The Rebbe applied this lesson to the search for marriage partners, assuring Rabbi Garelik that, despite challenges, suitable matches would ultimately be found and that one should not fear making continued efforts.
The Rebbe also expressed pleasure at hearing that those Rabbi Garelik met benefited from the Chassidic booklets he distributed, and enclosed a recently published booklet for Yud Tes Kislev, blessing him to share good news soon.
