Raskin - Avraham

Avraham Raskin (Chassidic Correspondent)

Avraham Raskin was a correspondent of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, as evident from a letter addressed to him in Brooklyn in 5712 (1951). The letter indicates that Raskin was involved in communal or charitable activities, serving as an intermediary for donations and spiritual guidance within his community.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The Rebbe's letter to Avraham Raskin acknowledges receipt of his communication and the enclosed donations from himself and others. The Rebbe addresses a specific case in which a woman, apparently a friend of Raskin, sent a donation for the elevation of her mother's soul. The Rebbe uses this as an opportunity to impart a broader lesson: while giving tzedakah (charity) is a significant mitzvah, it alone does not suffice for the spiritual health of a Jewish soul. Drawing an analogy to physical health, the Rebbe explains that just as all limbs of the body must be healthy, so too must all aspects of a Jew's observance be complete. He encourages Raskin to gently guide his acquaintance toward fulfilling all the mitzvos appropriate for a Jewish woman, not just the mitzvah of tzedakah.

The Rebbe expresses hope that Raskin will find the right words to inspire this woman and blesses him with success in his efforts. He also assures Raskin that he will mention him and his associates at the resting place of his father-in-law, the previous Rebbe, praying for their needs, especially regarding a shidduch (marriage match) for Raskin's son. The tone of the letter is warm, encouraging, and pastoral, reflecting the Rebbe's care for both individual and communal spiritual growth.
