Young Women's Group of Anash in Montreal refers to a society of young women affiliated with the Chabad-Lubavitch community ("Anash") in Montreal, dedicated to communal and spiritual activities. The group, represented in correspondence by its secretary Mrs. Chaya Kremer, sought guidance and blessings from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, regarding their organizational work and leadership.
The Rebbe's letter, dated 15 MarCheshvan 5712 (1951), was addressed to the group following their officer elections and the formation of a presidium. Responding to their request for a blessing, the Rebbe expressed pleasure at their initiative and conveyed heartfelt wishes for success in their endeavors. He encouraged the group, with its officers at the helm, to continue and expand their efforts to spread the light of Torah and mitzvos in general, and of Chassidus and chassidic ways in particular. The Rebbe emphasized that their influence should extend not only within their own homes but also outward, impacting their broader environment.
The Rebbe invoked the metaphor of each member serving as a "shining lantern" (torch), illuminating the darkness of exile in their surroundings. He cited a teaching from his revered father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe, who explained that just as a lantern placed on the street at night draws people to it, so too should a Jew—man or woman—not be content with spiritual light confined to the home, but must bring it into the public sphere. This, the Rebbe explained, not only attracts those who need to be drawn closer, but also naturally gathers others who are inspired by the light.
The Rebbe concluded with a blessing for success in both the group's communal activities and their personal matters, expressing hope to soon hear good news of their practical accomplishments and the fruits of their labor.
