Vaad Taharas Hamishpacha - Brighton Beach (Family Purity Committee of Brighton Beach)

Vaad Taharas Hamishpacha - Brighton Beach is a committee established in the Brighton Beach neighborhood with the purpose of promoting and facilitating the observance of family purity laws, specifically through the construction of a kosher mikvah (ritual bath) for the local Jewish community.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

In a letter dated the eve of Sukkos, 5712 (1951), the Lubavitcher Rebbe addressed the Jewish residents of Brighton Beach upon learning of the formation of the Vaad Taharas Hamishpacha. The Rebbe warmly welcomed the news and emphasized the critical importance of establishing a kosher mikvah in every Jewish neighborhood. He underscored that the observance of taharas hamishpacha (family purity) is vital for both the spiritual and physical continuity of the Jewish people, on both individual and communal levels.

The Rebbe urged that no obstacles should delay the construction of the mikvah, highlighting the urgency and responsibility involved: "Whoever saves one soul from Israel is as if he saved an entire world." He called upon all those able to assist—especially the local Jewish residents—to participate enthusiastically in providing the necessary resources. The Rebbe also expressed his hope that the rabbis, synagogue presidents, and community leaders would not rest until the mikvah was completed, invoking the merit of this great mitzvah as a source of blessing for all involved.
