משה הכהן

Moshe HaKohen (Community Activist)

Moshe HaKohen is addressed in the correspondence as a dedicated individual involved faithfully in communal affairs. The letter refers to him with honorifics and acknowledges his active role in assisting others, both materially and spiritually, within the Jewish community.

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, wrote to Moshe HaKohen in response to a personal note (pan) that Moshe had sent on behalf of himself, his wife, and his family. The Rebbe informs him that he read the requests at the resting place of his father-in-law, the previous Rebbe, on the day of his yahrzeit, invoking blessings and mercy for all those mentioned. The Rebbe expresses confidence that the previous Rebbe continues to intercede for those connected to him, especially for Moshe's family, and blesses them with all they need, emphasizing the power of a tzaddik's blessings even after their passing.

The Rebbe requests updates regarding the improvement of health for those mentioned and asks to be informed about the spiritual state and mitzvah observance of another individual referenced in Moshe's letter. He encourages Moshe HaKohen to continue his efforts, citing the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov that a soul may descend to this world for many decades just to do a single favor for another Jew, whether in material or spiritual matters. The Rebbe stresses that one should not be satisfied with helping only once or twice, but rather, as the Sages say, "even a hundred times," and notes the importance of assisting others in both physical and spiritual well-being.

The tone of the letter is warm and encouraging, blending personal blessings with guidance on communal responsibility. The Rebbe draws a parallel between Moshe's role as a Kohen and the biblical Aharon, who carried the judgment of the Children of Israel on his heart before the L-rd always, highlighting the ongoing duty to care for others.
