Yitzchok Spalter (Correspondent of the Rebbe)

Yitzchok Spalter was an individual who corresponded with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, receiving personal guidance and blessings, as evident from the Rebbe's letter to him dated 19 Kislev 5711 (1950).

Correspondence with the Rebbe

The letter from the Rebbe to Yitzchok Spalter expresses joy upon hearing that Spalter had emerged peacefully and completely free from a recent difficulty, attributing this positive outcome to the blessing of the Alm-ghty. The Rebbe further emphasizes his greater happiness upon learning that Spalter was actively fulfilling the guidance previously given to him. The Rebbe distinguishes between the joy of liberation, which is a result of Divine kindness, and the joy of seeing Spalter exercise his own free will to overcome the challenges of the yetzer hara (evil inclination) and carry out good deeds, which is a personal spiritual achievement.

The Rebbe encourages Spalter to continue this positive conduct and expresses hope that it will be maintained. He also introduces Spalter to the significance of Yud-Tes Kislev, the "Festival of Our Redemption," and encloses an English-language description about the fundamentals of Chassidus, urging him to set aside time to study these teachings. The Rebbe mentions that their mutual friend, Aharon Katz, would assist Spalter in this study. The tone of the letter is warm, supportive, and encouraging, concluding with a blessing for continued good news regarding Spalter and his family.

Support for Charitable Activities

Along with the letter, the Rebbe encloses a receipt for a donation transferred to the "Machane Israel" special fund, which was established by the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe for discreet charitable distribution to individuals and institutions. The Rebbe notes that the work of this fund, like all the activities of the previous Rebbe, continues to expand. This demonstrates the Rebbe's encouragement of both spiritual growth and participation in communal charity.
