Elikim Getzil Berger was a member of the Jewish community in London who corresponded with the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. The Rebbe addressed him with honorific titles, indicating his respected status within the community.
The letter from the Rebbe to Elikim Getzil Berger, dated 25 Iyar 5711 (1951), was sent in response to a pidyon nefesh (personal supplication) that Berger had conveyed through Rabbi Ben Tzion Shem Tov, a communal activist. The Rebbe informed Berger that he had read his pidyon nefesh at the resting place of his revered father-in-law, the previous Rebbe, on Lag BaOmer, a day associated with the joy of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. The Rebbe emphasized the spiritual significance of this day and the power of joy to break through all boundaries, expressing hope that Berger would soon be able to share good news regarding his requests.
The Rebbe also enclosed a recently published sicha (Torah discourse) from Lag BaOmer, encouraging Berger to study it deeply to find answers and spiritual nourishment for various personal matters. The tone of the letter is warm and encouraging, concluding with blessings for a joyful Shavuot and for receiving the Torah with happiness and inner depth.
