Tes Tishrei, Erev Yom Kippur
Kapparos: "Bnei adam—ul'shalom" is said three times, and each time the bird is swung three times around the head.
Until the end of Tishrei, Tachanun is not said.
Malkos: Both the one administering and the one receiving the lashes say "V'hu Rachum" three times.
On Erev Yom Kippur, the avodah is regret for the past; on Yom Kippur, it is acceptance for the future.
