Agudas N'shei U'bnos Chabad Pittsburgh Branch is the Pittsburgh branch of the international Chabad women's organization, dedicated to fostering Jewish life, education, and community among women and girls in the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The branch was established to further the mission of spreading Torah values and mitzvah observance within the local community and beyond.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, corresponded with the Agudas N'shei U'bnos Chabad Pittsburgh Branch upon receiving news of its founding. In his letter dated 9 Teves, 5715 (1955), the Rebbe expressed pleasure at the establishment of the branch and offered heartfelt blessings for its success. He encouraged the members to continue their work in spreading Ner Mitzvah v'Torah Or—the candle of mitzvah and the light of Torah—both within their group and throughout the broader Pittsburgh community. The Rebbe emphasized that such efforts would bring additional blessing and success to all participants and their families.
The Rebbe was particularly gratified to learn that the branch aimed to include women from more distant areas, highlighting the importance of Jewish unity. He referenced teachings from Tanya (chapter 32) and the Admor Tzemach Tzedek regarding the mitzvah of Ve'ahavta L'Reiacha Kamocha—loving one's fellow as oneself—underscoring that all Jews are inherently connected through their bond with the L-rd, transcending all limitations.
As a gesture of encouragement, the Rebbe enclosed a check from the funds of his father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe, to assist with the branch's expenses. He clarified that the monetary support was not significant in itself, but served as a means to bring additional success to their holy work. The Rebbe also included a copy of his general letter to Chabad women and girls, noting that its content, though originally connected to Yud-Tes Kislev, was relevant and important throughout the entire year. He concluded with blessings for success in their sacred endeavors and for good news in their personal matters.
