Levi Yitzchak Eisner is addressed in the Rebbe’s correspondence as a seasoned activist and communal worker, particularly involved in the activities of the Maamad (community fund) and matters associated with Chabad-Lubavitch institutions.
The Rebbe’s letter to Levi Yitzchak Eisner, dated 18 Kislev 5711 (1950), acknowledges receipt of Eisner’s letter and the enclosed checks, expressing gratitude and noting that receipts were likely already sent directly from the office. The Rebbe addresses Eisner as an “old activist” in matters of the Maamad, indicating his longstanding involvement in communal financial support and organizational affairs.
On the eve of Yud-Tes Kislev, the Rebbe emphasizes the special connection between the work of the Maamad and the month of Kislev, especially the 19th of Kislev, which commemorates the liberation of the Alter Rebbe and is celebrated as the “Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus.” The Rebbe highlights the tradition of Chabad leaders, from the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe through all generations, to devote themselves selflessly to the needs of the Jewish people, often even at personal sacrifice, and to extend kindness to every Jew, regardless of background or status.
The Rebbe notes that much of this charitable work, especially acts of discreet charity, was often conducted privately and funded personally by the Chabad leaders. He encourages Eisner and others connected to the previous Rebbe to continue supporting these efforts, particularly in the area of discreet charity, which is often managed through the Maamad fund. The Rebbe concludes with a blessing for Eisner’s continued success in these endeavors and requests that greetings be conveyed to all those involved in this important work.
