Haraha"ch vavach" iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z Moreinu HaRav Menachem Zev HaLevi Gringlas
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I hereby acknowledge receipt of your three letters from the 10th, 11th, and 17th of Tammuz. Certainly you will inform me about the good activities after the students from Montreal return to their place.
Regarding what you wrote about traveling to camp: it is surprising, for surely you know that people are traveling these days on behalf of Melamed L'Hoyil, and it seems to me that even in Montreal the heads of yeshivah are out of town, etc.
Some time ago I responded to Haraha"ch Moreinu HaRav Yaakov Zilberman regarding the form of Chabad script letters he sent me then. I requested that he try to find someone who received this tradition directly from another person regarding these letter forms—not just from what is found in parshiyos—since it is not always clear what is precise and exact and what is incidental or only for beautification.
Now a matter has come up that requires me to clarify about the forms of the letters ches and tes in tefillin. Consequently, I have a general question: Is there a difference between the ruling of Rabbeinu HaZaken in Shulchan Aruch regarding letter forms and the custom of Chabad scribes? In the letter forms previously sent by the aforementioned, two versions of the letter tes were found. It is also important to know about the form of the right yud on the tzaddik.
Perhaps you have some tradition about this or know someone who has such a tradition. Maybe speak with Moreinu HaRav Yaakov Zilberman and inform me of both your opinions. Thank you in advance.
Blessings and regards as above.
Summary
The Rebbe emphasizes that authentic transmission of Chabad script traditions must be direct—from one person to another—and not solely based on written samples. He encourages seeking out those with such traditions to ensure accuracy in sacred writing.
