The Rebbe acknowledges the start of medical treatment, instructing the recipient to continue with the doctor's plan. Igros Kodesh, Volume 16, Letter 6,076 26 Shevat, 5718 — Brooklyn, NY

In this letter, the Rebbe responds to a correspondence dated the 23rd of Shevat, in which the recipient mentions having begun medical treatment under a doctor's care. The Rebbe affirms that this is the proper course of action and encourages him to continue the treatment faithfully. While the specific nature of the illness is not disclosed, the Rebbe offers his prayers, expressing his wish that the treatment be successful and lead to a very speedy recovery.

The Rebbe then offers a profound spiritual insight, noting that while it may seem self-evident, it is vital to emphasize that physical health is deeply connected to the "health of the soul." He defines the health of the soul as increasing one’s dedication to Torah study—encompassing both its revealed (Nigleh) and esoteric (Chassidus) dimensions—and observing Mitzvos with the highest level of perfection (hiddur).

The Rebbe explains that by strengthening these spiritual foundations, one automatically draws down additional vitality into the physical body. This spiritual fortification serves as a direct catalyst for healing the specific physical ailment (michush) for which the recipient is currently seeking treatment.

To further illustrate this point, the Rebbe directs him to the classic Chassidic text Likkutei Torah, specifically to the section on Parshas Devarim (noting it is likely in Parshas Nitzavim). He refers to the discourse beginning with the words "Ki HaMitzvah HaZos," which expounds upon the verse "Tamim Tihiyeh"—the instruction to remain "earnest" or "whole" with Hashem.

The Rebbe concludes the letter with a blessing for continued growth in Torah study and the meticulous observance of Mitzvos, looking forward to hearing good news regarding both the recipient's spiritual progress and his physical recovery.
