Igros Kodesh – Letter 6092

From the Lubavitcher Rebbe Date: 5 Adar, 5718 (1958) | Brooklyn, N.Y.

B"H

To the Branch of N'shei u’Bnos Chabad of Bridgeport: May Hashem be with you and may you live and be well.

Blessing and Greeting:

I was pleased to receive the report regarding the founding of your branch of N’shei u’Bnos Chabad. Surely, the work and progress of the other existing branches will serve as a guide for you on how to advance in your own activities.

May the Almighty grant that this endeavor meets with great success in all aspects. The primary goal should be to expand this holy work into ever-growing and wider circles of Jewish women and daughters in Bridgeport.

As is well known, the Alter Rebbe taught that Chassidus (Chabad) is not something intended for only a specific segment of the Jewish people; rather, it is the inheritance and property of every Jew.

Since we have now entered the month of Adar, a time defined by the miracle of Purim, we recall how Queen Esther, as a daughter of Israel, contributed through her self-sacrifice (mesiras nefesh) to the completion and fulfillment of the Purim miracle.

In this same spirit, may the Jewish women of today recognize, to the fullest extent, their own capabilities and responsibilities. This realization will surely lead to the strengthening and expansion of the work of N’shei u’Bnos Chabad in every dimension.

With blessings for success,

(Signature)

P.S. Enclosed is a copy of the recent general letter (Michtav Klali) addressed to all branches of N’shei u’Bnos Chabad.

Discussion Points for Students:

  • The Inheritance of All: Why does the Rebbe emphasize that Chassidus belongs to "every Jew" and not just a specific group?

  • The Power of One: How does the Rebbe use the example of Queen Esther to empower the women of Bridgeport in their new community project?

  • The Month of Adar: How does the "energy" of a specific month on the Jewish calendar influence the way we approach our communal responsibilities?

Lesson on Igros Kodesh, Volume 16, Letter #6,092

In this letter, written on the 5th of Adar, 5718, the Rebbe addresses the newly established branch of Neshei u’Bnos Chabad (Women and Daughters of Chabad) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This letter is representative of the guidance the Rebbe provided to various women’s branches during this period.

Learning from Established Branches The Rebbe expresses great joy upon hearing of the establishment of the Bridgeport branch. He advises the new members to look to the work of existing branches to understand how to progress effectively in their own activities, fostering a spirit of emulation and shared success.

Universal Access to Chassidus A central theme of the Rebbe's guidance is the scope of their work. The Rebbe quotes an expression from the Alter Rebbe, emphasizing that Chassidus Chabad is not meant for only a specific segment of the Jewish community, but is the inheritance and property of all Jews. Consequently, the Rebbe urges the branch to widen its circles to include Jewish women and daughters from all backgrounds, not just those already affiliated with Chabad.

The Mission of the Jewish Woman in Adar Connecting the letter to the time it was written—the month of Adar—the Rebbe draws a parallel to the miracle of Purim. He highlights the crucial role of Queen Esther, noting that as a Jewish daughter, she contributed to the Purim miracle through her self-sacrifice.

The Rebbe charges the women of today with recognizing their own capabilities and responsibilities in the fullest measure. By doing so, they strengthen and increase the work of Neshei u’Bnos Chabad in all aspects, mirroring the impact of the miracle in their own time. The letter also includes a postscript with a copy of the Rebbe's general public letter to all Neshei Chabad branches, providing further guidance for their mission.
