Letter 6066: The Power of Detailed Planning
Introduction: The Rebbe’s Partisan
This letter, dated the 20th of Shevat, 5718 (1958), is addressed to the legendary Chassid, Reb Zushe Vilyamovsky of Tel Aviv. Known affectionately as "The Partisan" for his courageous service in the forests during World War II, Reb Zushe was a powerhouse of Chassidic activism. The Rebbe often referred to him as "my partisan" and relied on his tireless energy for communal projects in Eretz Yisrael.
Letter Translation & Commentary
The Reception of News
The Rebbe acknowledges receiving Reb Zushe’s letters from the 9th and 11th of Shevat. Reb Zushe was an avid writer who understood that the Rebbe wanted to stay constantly informed.
Blessings for Health
Regarding the various individuals mentioned in the letters, the Rebbe expresses his hope that their health has already improved. He offers a characteristic Chassidic blessing: that their condition should go "fun gut tsu noch besser" (from good to even better).
Reporting on the Kfar Chabad Gathering
The Rebbe pivots to the recent Farbrengen and Kinus (gathering) held in Kfar Chabad. Drawing on a principle from the Mishnah, the Rebbe encourages Reb Zushe to be as articulate as possible: "Kol hamifaret harei zeh meshubach"—the more one provides details, the more praiseworthy the report. Insight: Sometimes people hesitate to "burden" the Rebbe with small details. Here, the Rebbe makes it clear: he wants the full picture. The more details shared, the more the Rebbe can "live" with the Chassidim and guide their efforts.
The Necessity of Advance Planning
Based on the initial reports, the Rebbe notes his hope that Reb Zushe has already begun planning the program for the next Farbrengen in a timely manner. Insight: The Rebbe emphasizes that holy work should not be "hodgepodge" or thrown together at the last minute. True success comes from an organized, timely approach. This was a recurring theme in the Rebbe's correspondence with the leadership in Kfar Chabad and Tzeirei Agudas Chabad at the time.
Seeing the Results
The Rebbe concludes by noting that when one organizes and plans properly, the positive results are visible and immediate. He prays that this organized conduct becomes the permanent "way of doing things" moving forward, concluding with his holy signature.
Summary of the Rebbe's Guidance
-
Constant Connection: Maintain a steady stream of communication with the Rebbe.
-
The Details Matter: A detailed report allows for a deeper spiritual connection.
-
Order and Preparation: Do not rely on "miracles" for a Farbrengen; plan it with the same professionalism you would use for a business venture to ensure the greatest impact.
