Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from 29 Cheshvan, in which you inform me about your study schedule at Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim and ask my opinion regarding your difficulty studying two tractates at once and which one to continue with: Since you have merited being in yeshiva and it is well known in many places in the Midrashim of our Sages the virtue of Torah study in public—and this is also one of the forty-eight things through which Torah is acquired (see also Iggeres HaKodesh of the Alter Rebbe, section 23)—you should therefore study the tractate that is part of the yeshiva’s curriculum.
2) Regarding whether to study a lot for breadth and become proficient or to study less but with good depth: In general, this depends on your current proficiency and knowledge as well as your abilities (see Gemara at the end of Berachos, end of Horayos and Yerushalmi there; also see the maamar of Chassidus "Amar Rava Chayav Inish Levsumei B'Puraya," 5708, beginning of chapter 12 and its note—printed in Kuntres 54). Therefore, consult with the yeshiva administration on site and they will guide you specifically. In general, it is already well known that everyone should have both learning for breadth and learning for depth—both in Nigleh (the revealed part of Torah) and in Chassidus.
Certainly you are keeping the three daily lessons established by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe—Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya—and it is appropriate that each weekday before prayer you give some coins to charity (bli neder) until Yud Shevat approaching.
With blessings for Torah study with awe of Heaven.
Summary
The Rebbe advises focusing on the tractate set by the yeshiva when struggling with multiple studies. He recommends balancing both breadth and depth according to one's abilities and consulting with local leadership for guidance. Consistent daily practices are also encouraged.
