במענה על מכתבו מג' חשון, נהניתי לקרות בו מסדר לימודו בנגלה ובחסידות, ובטח ע"פ פסק רז"ל דמעלין בקדש יוסיף בזה בכמות והעיקר באיכות היינו בהתמדה בשקידה ובעומק הלימוד וידוע מרז"ל יגעת ומצאת.
ובמענה על הודעתו מיום הולדת שלו הבע"ל, הנה ביום הקריאה בס"ת הסמוך לו מלפניו יעלה לתורה וכן יאמר ספר תהלים, וכמובא בהיום יום י"א ניסן אשר "ביום ההולדת, על האדם להתבודד, ולהעלות זכרונותיו ולהתבונן בהם, והצריכים תקון ותשובה ישוב ויתקנם" יקח לו איזה רגעים להתבודדות, אשר ברגעים האלו ילמוד איזה מאמר של דא"ח ויקבל החלטה טובה על שנתו הבע"ל אשר צריכה להיות בערכו, היינו ענין שהוא לפי כחו מתאים לסדרי הישיבה וענין הכרוך בתורה וביראת שמים, ויוכל להתייעץ בזה עם המשפיע שלהם.
ובנוגע לשאלתו אם להניח תפילין דר"ת, הנה לע"ע די שיזהר מהיסח הדעת בהנחת תפילין דרש"י.

In response to your letter from the 3rd of Cheshvan, I was pleased to read about your study schedule in Nigleh and Chassidus. Surely, in accordance with our Sages' ruling that one must always ascend in holiness, you will increase both the quantity—and more importantly—the quality of your learning; that is, with diligence and depth. As our Sages taught: "Yagata u'Matzata" (If you toil you will find).
In response to your notification about your upcoming birthday: On the Torah reading day closest before your birthday, you should receive an aliyah to the Torah. Also, recite Tehillim. As brought in Hayom Yom for 11 Nissan: "On one's birthday a person should spend time in solitude, recall and reflect on their past deeds; those requiring correction and teshuvah should be rectified." Take a few moments for such solitude; during these moments learn a discourse of Chassidus and accept a good resolution for your coming year—something appropriate for you personally, fitting with the yeshivah's schedule and involving Torah and fear of Heaven. You may consult your mashpia about this.
Regarding your question about putting on Rabbeinu Tam tefillin: For now it is sufficient to be careful not to be distracted while donning Rashi tefillin.
