Shalom u'Vrachah!

For some time I have been debating with myself whether to write to you about the following matter, but in the end I have come to the decision that I have no other choice and am compelled to write… It is absolutely necessary that your daughter—may she live—wear a sheitel. I understand there are several difficulties here, and that is enough said, but I see no other possibility. This has already become customary in the United States and in many places, where the younger generation adopts customs and stringencies that even their parents did not yet observe. Especially in our case, this is not merely a matter of stringency or custom but much more than that. For obvious reasons I do not wish to elaborate further. Even though I am writing in Lashon HaKodesh (the Holy Tongue), surely you can explain this both to yourself and to your daughter and wife—may they live.

I await good news that this matter has been accepted positively by you, which will certainly ensure it will be carried out smoothly and will result in a great Kiddush Hashem (sanctification of G‑d's name), especially since those around you are watching closely and are opposed, etc., so it is all the more significant. And from an affirmative statement… etc.

Please forgive me if forgiveness is needed for raising this matter; I hope to receive word from you as soon as possible that everything has been arranged well—guterheit un glaterheit (in goodness and smoothness). Surely this will serve as an additional channel and vessel for drawing down and receiving blessings from Hashem for the young couple in all their material and spiritual needs.

Enclosed is a copy of my letter to Agudas Nshei U'Bnos Chabad (and surely they too will begin this work), which also relates to what was mentioned above: Even if at times it seems that what is required still feels far off, we learn from the creation of the world itself—the beginning was chaos and void and darkness; yet specifically at creation there was light, a light so great that even after the world's rectification it was not fitting for use (which is why it was hidden away for the future and for tzaddikim and Torah). And specifically through such a beginning there was order in creation by gradual ascent: plant, animal, human.

I repeat once again—not as a sermon—but only so that this matter should be brought into action: That your daughter—may she live—should put on a sheitel, and may the wedding take place at an auspicious and successful time. Awaiting good news from you. With blessing.

Summary

The Rebbe emphasizes that wearing a sheitel is essential despite challenges, highlighting its spiritual significance for both individual growth and communal sanctification. Taking on such commitments brings blessings for material and spiritual success.
