Shalom u'Vrachah!

Your letter from the 15th of Tammuz has reached me. I had already wondered and worried about your silence until now.

a) Immediately upon receiving your letter I conveyed its contents to my father-in-law the Rebbe shlita, and he was pleased that the matter of printing is progressing. Certainly you will strive for the highest possible quality.

b) In the introduction which I am preparing to sign (for Tanya, Ataras Rosh and Shaarei Orah), the date needs to be changed. It should read: 20th Menachem Av 5707.

c) I have informed Rabbi G. that if he requests from you, you should give him up to five hundred shekels per month for printing—on my responsibility. Therefore, when necessary turn directly to him and he will surely fulfill your request immediately. Certainly you will minimize expenses as much as possible (as long as it does not harm the beauty of the books), since they are acting in good faith.

d) In Shulchan Aruch there is no need to print the tzt"z additions at the end (since they are not relevant to Shulchan Aruch; they contain many errors; and in the new edition of tzt"z they have been corrected and expanded). The title page and introduction I will send soon, and you can begin printing Shulchan Aruch. Only one thousand copies should be printed.

e) According to the plan for now: in addition to Tanya, Ataras Rosh, Shaarei Orah, Shulchan Aruch—our sefer part one, part two, part four—also print Shaar HaEmunah and Shaar HaYichud by Admor HaEmtza'i—one thousand copies; and a complete Tehillat Hashem siddur (to be corrected according to the correction chart sent to you as much as possible)—two thousand copies. When we receive here the first copies and see how they are printed and bound—we will decide about future steps.

f) Please return Biurei HaZohar to Shalom Dovber Schneerson.

g) I await your update regarding other prices as promised in your above-mentioned letter; most importantly—to report on the progress of printing. Also send one booklet (as a sample for review here) from every twenty or thirty printed pages.

h) Certainly you will do everything possible so that Tanya can arrive here before Rosh Hashanah (and surely there will be travelers from there to here); even better if it arrives before Chai Elul celebrations (if notified in time—a related booklet can be printed here on schedule). Ataras Rosh and Shaarei Orah also by this time—and at least no later than Cheshvan.

i) If books are sent here via travelers—then three-quarters of each print run should be sent here.

j) I do not know which way will reach us fastest; therefore I am writing directly to you as well as through our friend* in Paris. Please inform me how this will be handled going forward.

To conclude with words of our teacher: My father-in-law the Rebbe shlita writes in one of his letters: "The tzt"z said—a word spoken is public; written is before the world; printed is for generations." Perhaps we can explain precisely that 'for generations' means at least four generations: two generations of people plus two more (as our sages say Sanhedrin 99a on 'generation after generation'), based on what tzt"z writes in his commentary on Tehillim (145:4): "Dor leDor—they are all stages of hishtalshelus etc., since all worlds are called a generation." Thus four generations correspond to the four worlds ABYA. Just as these four worlds include all worlds, so too does 'for generations' include all generations; see also Likkutei Torah Devarim He'aras Inyan Motza'ehem.
