קומענדיק האב איך געטראפן בא זיך אויפן טיש די רשימת שיחות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א פון תשרי תש"ז ווארשיינליך אפגעגעבן פון אייך - דאנקע בעסטענס.
אייגענטליך וואלט איך געוואלט דערמיט פארענדיקן מיין בריף - אבער דער מצב פון מרכז לעניני חנוך בריינגט מיר צו שרייבן אויך דאס פאלגענדע:
דער פינאנציעלער צושטאנד פון מרכז לעניני חנוך איז זייער אנאנגעשטריינ[ג]טער, דערצו קומען נאך צו די אויסגאבן פארבונדן מיט אונזער וואקסענדער ארבעט אין יוראפ (חנוך און הדפסה) חאטש מען איז זייער אויסגערעכנט אין הוצאות. דאס נייט דעם מרכז ווענדן זיך צו אלע זייערע פריינד, בעטן זיי תיכף באצאלן אלע זייערע נדרים און נדבות פון עבר, און צו באשטייערן פון דאס ניי אויף להבא, וויפעל זיי קענען און נאך מער פון זייער יכולת.
רעכענענדיק אייך פון די נעהענסטע פריינד פון מרכז לעניני חנוך גייט צו אייך די ווענדונג, און איך בין זיכער אז זי וועט געפינען ביי אייך דעם ריכטיקן אפ[ק]לאנג אף אליין טאהן תיכף כנ"ל און אויך זעהען אז אלע אויף וועמען נאר איר קענט האבן א ווירקונג זאלן אויך תיכף אזוי טאן.
איך ווייס אז איר האט פארשידענע טענות אויף דאס דערווייל אפלייגן, וויל איך פארענדיקן מיט א מאמר רז"ל פארבונדען מיט די טעג פון וועלכע מען איז שוין אוועקגעגאנגן:
חז"ל זאגען (בבא מציעא דף ל. עמוד ב) לא חרבה ירושלים אלא על שהעמידו דיניהם על דין תורה. און אז מען טוט לפני[ם] משורת הדין (דאס הייסט כאטש זיך ווייזט זיך אויס אז על פי דין איז ער דערווייל פטור פון דעם) איז דאס מקרב די גאולה און בנין ירושלים.
אין דער האפענונג הערן פון אייך גוטע נייעס,
ובברכת לאלתר לתשובה, לאלתר לגאולה,

Surely you know that I was in Europe for several months, and now I have returned with my mother, may she live and be well. Upon my return, I found on my table the list of talks of the Rebbe Rayatz shlita from Tishrei 5707, apparently given over by you—thank you very much.
Actually, I would have wanted to end my letter here—but the situation at Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch compels me to write the following as well:
The financial state of Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch is extremely strained. In addition, there are further expenses connected with our expanding work in Europe (education and printing), even though we are very careful with expenditures. This necessitates that the Merkaz turn to all its friends, asking them to immediately pay all their past pledges and donations, and to contribute anew for the future—as much as they can and even more than their ability.
Since I count you among the closest friends of Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch, this appeal is directed to you. I am certain it will find in you the proper response—to act immediately as above, and also see to it that everyone upon whom you can have an influence will also do so right away.
I know that you have various arguments for postponing this for now. Therefore, I wish to conclude with a saying of our Sages connected with these days which we have just passed: Our Sages say (Bava Metzia 30b), "Jerusalem was destroyed only because they based their judgments strictly on Torah law." And when one acts lifnim mishurat hadin (that is, even if it appears that according to strict law one is presently exempt), this brings closer the redemption and rebuilding of Jerusalem.
With hope to hear good news from you soon, and with blessings for immediate teshuvah and immediate redemption.
