במענה על מכתבו מכ"ח אלול ה'תש"ו, שמחתי לשמוע כי בא בשלום לארצנו הקדושה תותב"א והתענגתי כי מצא את סביבת אנ"ש שי' אשר יוכל לרוות שם את צמאונו ללמוד התורה ולדעת את דרך ה'.
ובטח גם שם ישתדל להשפיע ג"כ על אחרים לקרבם לתומ"צ ולחזקם בקיומם.
ידוע מארז"ל (ב"ר ספ"ה) למה נקרא שמה ארץ שרצתה לעשות רצון קונה, וישראל על שם כי שרית עם אלקים ואנשים ותוכל, וא"כ דירה בארץ ישראל, היינו שעושה רצון קונו אף שעי"ז צריך ללחום נגד אנשים וגם נגד כחות הטבע (שהמזלות ומלאכים הם שלוחים להנהיגו, ולכן הטבע בגימט' אלקים כמ"ש בשל"ה מס' פסחים דרוש ג') כי אוירא דארץ ישראל מחכים ומסייע שלא יכנס רוח שטות (שאין אדם עובר עבירה אלא א"כ נכנס בו רוח שטות).
נשמח לשמוע מהנעשה אתו לטוב ומפעולותיו בחזוק התורה והיהדות.

In response to your letter from the 28th of Elul, 5706, I was happy to hear that you arrived safely in our holy land—may it be rebuilt and established—and I was delighted that you found yourself among Anash there, where you can quench your thirst for Torah study and knowledge of the ways of G-d.
Surely there as well you will strive to influence others to draw them closer to Torah and mitzvos and strengthen them in their observance.
It is known from our Sages (Bereishis Rabbah ch. 5) why it is called "Eretz"—because it desired to do the will of its Creator; and Israel is so named because "ki sarita im Elokim va'anashim vatuchal" (for you have struggled with G-d and with men and have prevailed). Thus, dwelling in Eretz Yisrael means fulfilling the will of one's Creator even when this requires battling against people and also against natural forces (since the constellations and angels are messengers that direct nature; therefore, "teva" [nature] has the same gematria as "Elokim," as explained in Shlah on Pesachim Drush 3). For the air of Eretz Yisrael makes one wise and helps prevent a ruach shtus (foolish spirit) from entering (as a person only sins when such a spirit enters him).
We would be happy to hear about your wellbeing and your activities in strengthening Torah and Judaism.
Summary
The Rebbe encourages using one's presence in Eretz Yisrael for personal spiritual growth and for positively influencing others. The unique holiness of the land supports overcoming both internal and external challenges in serving G-d.
