מיט גרויס פרייד און פארגעניגען האב איך ערהאלטן דעם גרוס פון ידידינו האברכים שי' וועלכע זיינען געקומען פון שנגהאי, אז איר האט אנגענומען די הצעה אפצוגעבן זיך מיט שאפן מיטלען אויף דער הדפסה אין שנגהאי פון ספרי רבותינו הקדושים, תורת אלקים חיים.
איך האב, זעלבסטפארשטענדליך, איבערגעגעבן וועגן דעם צו כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א, וועלכער איז געווען העכסט צופרידן דאס צו הערן און האפט אין דער נאענטסטער צייט צו האבן פון אייך גוטע ידיעות.
וועגן דער גרויסקייט פון זכות פון געבן טויזנטער אידן די מעגליכקייטן צו לערנען ספרים וועלכע ענטהאלטן די תורות פון אונזערע רביים, בין איך זיכער אז ס'איז איבעריק צו ערקלערן אייך באריכות. איך וויל נאר אנדייטן איין ביישפיל, וואס ווערט דערציילט פון חז"ל:
חז"ל דערציילן, אז די גאנצע זאך פון גלות האט זיך אנגעהויבן דערפון וואס די מרגלים האבן גערעדט לשון-הרע און האבן דורכדעם געבראכט אומגליקן אויף זיך און אויף דורות און דורות נאך זיי, ביז אונזער דור.
די עצה דערצו - ווי די גמרא זאגט (ערכין ט"ו, ב) - איז תורה, ווי עס שטייט "מרפא לשון עץ חיים," וואס עץ חיים מיינט מען דא די תורה.
די גרויסקייט פון דעם שטראף פאר'ן ריידן לשון הרע, וואס דאס הערן נאר די מענטשן וועלכע זיינען דא אין דער צייט און אויף דעם ארט, גיט א פארשטעלונג וועגן דעם גרויסן זכות און שכר וואס מ'האט פון ריידן תורה אין א באשטימטן ארט און צייט, און דערפון קען מען זיך פארשטעלן ווי גרויס עס איז דער זכות און שכר פון אפדרוקן תורה, וואס דאמאלסט קען דער ספר, און די תורה וואס ער ענטהאלט, דער-גרייכן אין אלע לענדער, און דער ספר בלייבט און ווערט געלערנט אויך צענדליקע און הונדערטע יארן נאכדעם ווי ער איז אפגעדרוקט געווארן.
איך פארענדיק מיט דעם וואונש, אז דער גרויסער זכות זאל אייך ביישטיין אין אלעס וואס איר דארפט, און איר זאלט אויך ווייטער נעמען אן אנטייל אין ענליכע זאכן וועלכע שליסן אין זיך איין תורה ומצות ומעשים טובים.

With great joy and pleasure I received the greeting from our friends, the Avrechim, who arrived from Shanghai, that you have accepted the proposal to engage in raising funds for printing in Shanghai the books of our holy Rebbeim, Toras Elokim Chaim.
I have, of course, conveyed this to my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, who was extremely pleased to hear it and hopes to soon receive good news from you.
Regarding the greatness of the merit of giving thousands of Jews the opportunity to study books containing the teachings of our Rebbeim, I am sure it is unnecessary to elaborate at length. I only wish to point out one example told by our Sages: Our Sages relate that the entire matter of exile began because the spies spoke lashon hara (evil speech), bringing misfortune upon themselves and generations after them until our own generation. The remedy for this—as stated in Gemara (Arachin 15b)—is Torah, as it says: "Marpeh Lashon Eitz Chaim" (the healing of speech is a tree of life), where Eitz Chaim here refers to Torah.
The severity of punishment for speaking lashon hara—which is only heard by those present at that time and place—gives us an idea of how great is the merit and reward for speaking words of Torah at a specific time and place. From this we can imagine how much greater is the merit and reward for printing Torah: then a book and its Torah content can reach all countries; and even decades or hundreds of years after it has been printed, it remains and continues to be studied.
I conclude with a wish that this great merit should stand by you in all your needs, and that you should continue to participate in similar matters which include Torah, mitzvos, and good deeds.
