זה עתה קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ח תמוז, וממהר הנני לענות עליו אף שכמה מכתבים מכמה זמן קודם עדיין לא נענו, כיון שכותב במכתבו שנגרם חלישות ביותר וכו' והוא בדבר מה שכותב שזה כשני חדשים שכתבו לכאן מנהיגי ביהכ"נ [קהל חסידים] שכנראה ממכתבו כתבו ישר אלי ולא קבלו מענה, ואולי וכנראה שנאבד המכתב שלהם בדרך, ואם נשארה ההעתקה והענין נוגע עוד, אולי ישלח לי כת"ר שי' העתקת מכתבם.
ב) בנוגע לגוף הדבר מה ששואל חוו"ד אני בענין הסברא שיעשה כת"ר שי' נסיעה לכאן לערך בחדש כסלו הבע"ל, והשאלה בזה של"ע ול"ע סבל זה מלפני זמן מיחוש בלב, ומאז מוגבל הוא וצריך זהירות באכילה ושתי' ובכלל בעיני זהירות בהליכה, והרופאים מומחים אמרו לו שהכל תלוי אם יוכל להבטיח לבלתי התרגש וכו' וכו' וגם טלטול הדרך נוגע וכו'
הנה לדעתי אין כדאי להכנס בכל ספיקות ושקו"ט הנ"ל, וכיון שההשגחה העליונה הביאתו למקומו עתה ובפרט בזמן האחרון רואים במוחש כר נרחב לפעולות גדולות בנוגע לפועל - להפצת תורת החסידות דרכי' ומנהגי' במחנו ובפרט בין תלמידי הישיבה, אשר בנגוד לישיבות אחרות בהשנים שעברו, הנה ישיבתם דמחנם הט' לא לבד שאינה מנגדת אלא אדרבה מבקשת שיפיצו בין התלמידים את רוח החסידות, הרי כדאי וראוי ונכון וטוב לנצל כל יום וכל אפשרות בכיוון זה, ואם על כאו"א מישראל אמרו רז"ל שהוא עולם מלא, הרי עאכו"כ בתלמידים של ישיבה שרובם ככולם יהיו סו"ס משפיעים בסביבתם, א"כ ע"י כל הטבה ושיפור שמכניס ויכניס כת"ר באחד התלמידים יגרום במילא שפור ותקון לאותה הסביבה שלאחר כמה שנים יהי' תלמיד זה המשפיע שם, וגודל הענין בזה אין לשער מראש כלל וכלל וכידוע המשל אשר תיקון קטן או ח"ו להיפך באילן גדול אין זה אלא תקון קטן בלבד, משא"כ תקון קטן בגרעין הנזרע אפשר שבזה תלוי כל קיום האילן הנצמח ממנו לאחר זמן משך של כמה שנים, ואף אם יאריך הענין הרי מבואר בדא"ח בענין החילוק דזריעה ונטיעה, אשר אריכות הזמן גופא מורה על גודל השינוי והצמיחה לטוב, והאריכות לדכוותי' אך למותר,
ג) מוסג"פ ר"ד שאמרתי להתלמידים מהישיבה הנוסעים מדי שנה בשנה בימי הקיץ בשליחות המרכז לעניני חינוך להחזקת רוח היהדות בהערים דארצוה"ב, אבל באמת תוכן הדברים נוגע לכאו"א מישראל, כי הנשמה הרי מקומה תחת כסא הכבוד שמשם נחצבה, ועוד למע' מזה, כי עלו ובמח'. וירדה בסתר המדרי' עד עוה"ז הגשמי והחומרי (ולכן אין רצונה לרדת, וכמרז"ל בע"כ אתה חי), ובכ"ז הרי דוקא ע"י ירידה זו מאיגרא רמה, אפשריות העלי' הגדולה ביותר וכמבואר בכ"מ בדא"ח, ואף שאין הענין מובן ע"פ שכל, ובפרט בעבודה הפרטית שניתנה לכל נשמה, הנה ע"ז נאמר אך בגורל תחלק הארץ, וכמבואר בהרשימה המצו"פ,

I have just received your letter from the 28th of Tammuz, and I am hurrying to reply even though several letters from earlier dates have yet to be answered, since you write that you are experiencing significant weakness, etc. You mention that about two months ago the leaders of the synagogue [Kahal Chassidim] wrote here—apparently directly to me according to your letter—but did not receive a response. Perhaps their letter was lost along the way. If you still have a copy and the matter is still relevant, perhaps you could send me a copy of their letter.
Regarding your main question about whether you should travel here around Kislev, G‑d willing: you mention that unfortunately you have suffered for some time from a heart condition and since then must be careful with eating and drinking, and generally with walking; expert doctors have told you that everything depends on avoiding excitement, etc., and that travel may also be an issue. In my opinion, it is not worthwhile to get involved in all these doubts and deliberations. Since Divine Providence has brought you to your current place—and especially recently we see clearly there is great potential for significant activities regarding spreading Chassidus, its ways and customs in our camp, particularly among the yeshivah students—unlike other yeshivos in previous years, where their administration was not only not opposed but even encouraged spreading the spirit of Chassidus among the students—it is therefore worthwhile and proper to utilize every day and every opportunity in this direction. If it is said about every Jew that he is an entire world (as our Sages teach), how much more so regarding yeshivah students who will eventually become influencers in their communities! Thus, any improvement or positive influence you make now or will make in one student will automatically bring about improvement and rectification for that community where this student will later serve as an influencer after some years. The magnitude of this matter cannot be estimated at all. It is well known by analogy: a small correction—or G‑d forbid the opposite—in a large tree is only a minor correction; but a small correction in a seed being planted can determine the entire existence of the tree that will grow from it years later. Even if it takes time for results to appear, Chassidus explains regarding planting versus grafting that length of time itself indicates greater change and growth for good; further elaboration seems unnecessary.
Enclosed is a transcript of what I said to yeshivah students who travel each summer on behalf of Merkaz L’Inyonei Chinuch to strengthen Jewish spirit in American cities. In truth, its content applies to every Jew: for the soul’s place is under the Throne of Glory from which it was hewn—and even higher than that—for it ascended in thought before descending through many levels into this physical world (which is why it does not wish to descend—as our Sages say: "Against your will you live"). Yet specifically through this descent from such heights comes the greatest possible ascent—as explained many times in Chassidus—even if this cannot be understood intellectually, especially regarding each soul’s individual mission. About this it says: "However by lot shall you divide the land," as explained in the attached note.
