במענה על מכתבו מד' פנחס, בו מודיע על דבר מצבו עתה, ואשר יש עתה יכולת לעשות שותפות עם גיסו שי' ואז יעשה גם הוא שומר שבת ומבקש ברכה שימצא קונה טוב על הבית שברצונו למכור, בכדי שיוכל להכנס להשותפות:
הנה נבהלתי לקרות כזה במכתב יהודי, שכל ישראל מאמינים בני מאמינים, ואם לדעתי ועצתי ישמע, הנה תיכף ומיד יעשה לשומר שבת, מבלי לחכות על גמר השותפות, וזה גופא אשר לא יעמיד תנאים להשי"ת (שבתחלה ימכור את ביתו ואח"כ ישמור את הש"ק) הרי זה גופא ימשיך לו תוספת ברכה והצלחה שיוכל למצוא פרנסתו בהרחבה.
ויתבונן אליבא דנפשי', איזה פעולה עושה ענין זה (העדר שמירת השבת), על ילידיהם שיחיו, ואף אם לעת עתה אין הם מדברים על דבר זה, אבל בטח נשאר זה בזכרונם וכו' וכו'.
כשאהי' על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אזכירו למילוי בקשתו שיוכל להסתדר בהקדם היותר אפשרי בענין פרנסה שלא יעמידו כלל בנסיון דשמירת השבת, ולמילוי בקשתי, שיעשה ליהודי שומר שבת ותורה ומצוה תיכף ומיד, וידוע אשר אצל איש הישראלי, הנה הגשמיות והרוחניות הם קשורים ומאוחדים, וכמ"ש אם בחקותי תלכו וגו' ונתתי גשמיכם בעתם וגו'.
אינו מזכיר במכתבו על דבר אופן חנוך בתו... ובנו... שיחיו, ולמותר להעיר על ההכרח שיקבלו חנוך יהודי במלא מובן המלה.
מהנכון הי' לבדוק כל המזוזות שבביתו שיהיו כולם כשרות, ויסתדר לומר בכל יום איזה קאפיטלעך תהלים, ומה טוב אם יהי' כמו שנחלק - התהלים - לימי החדש או לימי השבוע.
נדבתו ששלח הנה נמסרה לקופת בקור חולים והשי"ת ירפאהו רפואת הנפש שיהי' בריא ושלם ברמ"ח מצות עשה ושס"ה מצות לא תעשה אשר זה ממשיך בריאות השלימה ברמ"ח אברים ושס"ה גידים, ואחכה לבשורות טובות בכל הנ"ל,

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 4th of Pinchas, in which you inform me of your current situation and that there is now an opportunity to form a partnership with your brother-in-law—then you too would become a Shabbos observer—and you request a blessing to find a good buyer for the house you wish to sell so you can enter into the partnership:
I was shocked to read such a thing in a letter from a Jew; all Jews are believers, children of believers. If you will listen to my opinion and advice: immediately and without delay become a Shabbos observer, without waiting for the partnership to be finalized. The very fact that you do not set conditions for the Creator (that first you will sell your house and only then observe Shabbos) will itself draw down additional blessing and success so that you will be able to find your livelihood with abundance.
Reflect deeply within yourself on what effect this matter (the lack of Shabbos observance) has on your children. Even if at present they do not speak about it, surely it remains in their memory, etc., etc.
When I am at the resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may his merit protect us), I will mention you for the fulfillment of your request—that you be able to arrange matters as quickly as possible regarding livelihood so that there will be no test at all regarding Shabbos observance. And for the fulfillment of my request: that you immediately become a Jew who observes Shabbos, Torah, and mitzvos. It is well known that for a Jewish person, materiality and spirituality are bound together—as it is written: 'Im Bechukosai Teileichu... V'nasati Gishmeichem B'itam...' ("If you follow My statutes... I will give your rains in their season...").
You do not mention in your letter about the manner of education for your daughter... and son..., but it is unnecessary to point out the absolute necessity that they receive a fully Jewish education in every sense of the word.
It would be appropriate to check all the mezuzahs in your home to ensure they are all kosher. Arrange to say some chapters of Tehillim every day; even better if it is divided according to days of the month or week.
Your donation sent here has been given over to the Bikur Cholim fund. May Hashem heal you with healing of soul so that you are healthy and whole in all 248 positive mitzvos and 365 negative mitzvos; this itself brings complete health in all 248 limbs and 365 sinews. I await good news regarding all the above. With blessing.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that one should not delay observing Shabbos or make conditions with G‑d; immediate commitment brings blessings both spiritually and materially.
