בנועם קבלתי מכתבו בו מודיע אשר קבל הקבלה בתור שו"ב, ויה"ר מהשי"ת אשר יצליח במלאכתו מלאכת שמים ובטח ידוע לו מפסק נשיאנו רבוה"ק ובפרט רבינו אדמו"ר הזקן ואדמו"ר הצ"צ בשו"ע ושו"ת שלהם, אשר שו"ב צריך להיות ירא שמים ביותר, וכיון שהכל הוא בהשגחה פרטית הרי ניתן לו הכחות ע"ז ואין הדבר תלוי אלא בו, וביגיעת נפש ויגיעת בשר המתאימה יצליח גם בזה, ומתאים למ"ש בתנא דבי רבי ישמעאל אין ושחט אלא ומשך, הנה כשם שמתפקידו של השו"ב הוא בגשמיות למשוך בשר הבהמה והעוף ממדריגת בעל חי שיוכל להיות דם ובשר כבשר המדבר, הנה יצליח ג"כ למשוך את נפש הבהמית הן שלו והן של אחרים שתתבטל ותתכלל בנפש האלקית הנקרא אדם אדמה לעליון.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to receive your letter in which you inform me that you have received certification as a shochet. May it be the will of the Blessed One that you succeed in your work—work for Heaven. Surely you are aware of the ruling of our Rebbeim, our holy leaders, and especially our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe and the tzt"z in their Shulchan Aruch and responsa, that a shochet must be especially G‑d-fearing. Since everything is by Divine Providence, you have been given the abilities for this; it depends only on you. With appropriate spiritual and physical effort, you will also succeed in this. This fits with what is written in Tanna d'Bei Rabbi Yishmael: "Ein v'shachat ela v'mashach" (there is no 'and he slaughtered' except 'and he drew'), meaning just as the shochet's task physically is to draw the flesh of the animal or bird from the level of animal so it can become flesh and blood like that of a human being, so too will you succeed in drawing your own animal soul—and those of others—to be nullified and included within the Divine soul called Adam (man), who resembles the Supreme.
