קבלתי מכתבו מי"א ניסן, וכל המברך יתברך בתוספתו של הקב"ה המרובה על העיקר הוא וזוגתו וכל יו"ח שיחיו.
בטח בינתים קיבל את הקונטרס והעתק מכתביי הכללים ופרסמם באופן המתאים.
ת"ח על סיפורי חסידים שמעתיק בכל מכתביו, ובטח יעשה כזה גם להבא ותודה מראש, וידוע עד כמה שהיו מייקרים נשיאינו רבוה"ק זצוקלל"ה נבג"מ זי"ע סיפורי צדיקים וחסידים, וידועה השיחה של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע בזה, שספר בראשית קדם להספרים שאחריו, אף שעיקרו ורובו ככולו הוא ספורי צדיקי והספרים שאחריו הם במצות התורה וכו'.

הנה מוכרחני לגלות דעתי שאין זה נראה לי, והטעם, זיכהו השי"ת אש קבע מושבו בארץ אשר עיני ה"א בה מרשית שנה ועד אחרית שנה, ובה גופא בירושלים עיה"ק שהיא מקודשת מכל ארץ ישראל, ובענין הנסיעה מאה"ק ת"ו רבו הספיקות והפקפוקים שבזה, ולכן אינו מובן כלל וכלל למה לו ליכנס בספיקות ולטלטל ולכתת רגליו לעבור דרך ימים נהרות ומדבריות להוציא כ"כ הוצאות ולאבד כמה זמן על הנסיעה מהתם להכא ומהכא להתם, בה בשעה אשר בכל רגע שעה ויום שהוא באה"ק ת"ו ובעיה"ק ת"ו יכול להמשיך אור ה' בעוה"ז הגשמי ולהשתדל בהפצת מעיינות הבעש"ט תלמידיו ותלמידי תלמידיו וביחוד של רבינו הזקן והבאים אחריו, באה"ק ת"ו, אשר ענין זה נחוץ שם ביותר ומיום ליום עוד מתגבר הנחיצות בזה כיון שהחשך ג"כ הולך ומתרבה ר"ל, ובשעה כזו רוצה הוא לעזוב את מקומו און זוכען גליקען, והשי"ת יברכו באריכות ימים ושנים טובות ובריאות ויעמוד חזק על משמרתו לנצל כל הזדמנות וכל ענין לחזק את האמונה ולרומם קרן ישראל סבא ולהפיץ אור החסידות תורתה מנהגי' והוראותי' בכל מקום ובכל סוג אנשים שידו מגעת.

I received your letter from 11 Nissan, and as anyone who blesses is blessed with an added measure by the Holy One, blessed be He, so too for you and your wife and all your children. Surely by now you have received the kuntres and a copy of my general letters and have publicized them appropriately.
Thank you for the chassidic stories you include in all your letters; surely you will continue to do so in the future—thank you in advance. It is well known how much our Rebbeim cherished stories of tzaddikim and chassidim, and also well known is the talk of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, about this: that Sefer Bereishis precedes all other books even though its main content is stories of tzaddikim, while those that follow are about mitzvos of the Torah, etc.
Regarding what you wrote about your desire to visit America and your reasons as explained in your letter: I must reveal my opinion that I do not see this as appropriate. The reason is that Hashem has granted you to establish your place in the Land upon which "the eyes of Hashem are upon it from the beginning of the year to its end," and specifically in Jerusalem, which is holier than all Eretz Yisrael. Regarding travel from Eretz Yisrael there are many doubts and uncertainties; therefore it is entirely unclear why one should enter into such doubts and trouble oneself to cross seas, rivers, and deserts—spending so much money and losing so much time on travel from there to here and back—when every moment spent in Eretz Yisrael and especially in Jerusalem can be used to draw down G‑d's light into this physical world by spreading the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov, his students, their students' students—especially those of our Alter Rebbe and his successors—in Eretz Yisrael. This work is most needed there, with its necessity increasing daily as darkness also increases (may G‑d protect us). At such a time you wish to leave your place "to seek fortune elsewhere." May Hashem bless you with long life, good years, health; may you stand strong at your post to use every opportunity to strengthen faith, uplift Israel's pride, and spread the light of chassidus—its teachings, customs, and guidance—everywhere among all types of people within your reach.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that one's efforts are most valuable when dedicated to spreading Torah and chassidus where they are most needed—in this case Jerusalem—and that sharing inspiring stories strengthens faith for oneself and others.
