בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מהתחלת אדר, ונעם לי לקרות בו אשר השלום אתו ומשתדל בכל עת מצוא להפיע ג"כ על סביבתו להמשיך שלום בגבולם, ומובן אש השלום בגשמיות תלוי בהשלום ברוחניות, וכיודע ג"כ מהתגליות החדשות של חכמת הרפואה, עד כמה שנוגע לבריאות גוף הגשמי מצב הנערווין והשלום בנפש, וכיון ששתי הנפשות אשר באיש הישראלי הם במלחמה, כיון שהאחת ענינה רוחניות והשי' ענינה גשמיות, אי אפשר הלום ביניהם אלא באופן אחד הואו ע"י נצחן הנפש האלקית, כ"א ח"ו יהי' להיפך הרי אין זה שלום, כיון שאפילו בשעת החטא הרי הנפש האלקית הנההה באמנה אתו ית' כמ"ש בתניא סוף פרק כ"ד, ולא עוד אלא שאפילו יצה"ר הרי זה רק שניתן לו רשות לבלבל את האדם, אבל גם הוא רצונו שהאדם ינצח אותו שעל ידי זה ירבה גם זכרו, היינו שכר היצה"ר, ועיין בתניא סוף פרק כ"ט, בזהר פרשת תרומה תקס"ג.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I received your letter from the beginning of Adar in due time, and I was pleased to read that you are well and always strive to influence your surroundings to bring peace into their midst. It is understood that physical peace depends on spiritual peace. As is also known from recent discoveries in medical science, the state of one's nerves and peace of mind greatly affect physical health.
Since the two souls within a Jew are at war with each other—one being spiritual in nature and the other material—true peace between them can only come in one way: through the victory of the Divine soul. If, G‑d forbid, it is otherwise, this is not true peace, for even at the time of sin, as explained at the end of chapter 24 in Tanya, the Divine soul remains faithful to Him (the Blessed One). Furthermore, even the evil inclination (yetzer hara) was only given permission to confuse a person; but its true desire is that a person should overcome it, for by doing so its own merit increases—that is, there is reward for overcoming the yetzer hara. See Tanya at the end of chapter 29 and Zohar Parshas Terumah 263.
Enclosed is a copy of my general letter for Pesach (may it come upon us for good), which I hope will interest you and perhaps also those people you meet.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that genuine inner peace comes when one's Divine soul triumphs over material drives. Even challenges from one's yetzer hara ultimately serve to elevate a person spiritually when overcome. Spiritual harmony leads to physical well-being.
