בעתו קבלתי מכתבו מהתחלת אדר, ונעם לי לקרות בו אשר השלום אתו ומשתדל בכל עת מצוא להשפיע ג"כ על סביבתו להמשיך שלום בגבולם, ומובן אשר השלום בגשמיות תלוי בהשלום ברוחניות, וכידוע ג"כ מהתגליות החדשות של חכמת הרפואה, עד כמה שנוגע לבריאות גוף הגשמי מצב הנערווין והשלום בנפש, וכיון ששתי הנפשות אשר באיש הישראלי הם במלחמה, כיון שהאחת ענינה רוחניות והשני' ענינה גשמיות, אי אפשר השלום ביניהם אלא באופן אחד והוא ע"י נצחון הנפש האלקית, כ"א ח"ו יהי' להיפך הרי אין זה שלום, כיון שאפילו בשעת החטא הרי הנפש האלקית הנהה באמנה אתו ית' כמ"ש בתניא סוף פרק כ"ד, ולא עוד אלא שאפילו יצה"ר הרי זה רק שניתן לו רשות לבלבל את האדם, אבל גם הוא רצונו שהאדם ינצח אותו שעל ידי זה ירבה גם שכרו, היינו שכר היצה"ר, ועיין בתניא סוף פרק כ"ט, בזהר פרשת תרומה תקס"ג.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In due time I received your letter from the beginning of Adar, and it pleased me to read that you are well and always strive to influence those around you to bring peace into their midst. It is understood that physical peace depends on spiritual peace. As is also known from new discoveries in medical science, the state of one's nerves and inner peace greatly affect physical health. Since the two souls within a Jew are at war—one concerned with spirituality and the other with materiality—peace between them is possible only in one way: through the victory of the divine soul. If, G‑d forbid, it is otherwise, this is not true peace, since even at the time of sin, as explained at the end of Tanya chapter 24, the divine soul remains faithful to Him, blessed be He. Moreover, even the evil inclination only has permission to confuse a person but actually desires that a person should overcome it, for by doing so its own reward increases—as discussed at the end of Tanya chapter 29 and in Zohar Parshas Terumah 563.
Enclosed is a copy of my general letter for Pesach which I hope will interest you and perhaps also those people you meet.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true inner peace for a Jew comes when the divine soul prevails over material inclinations. Even challenges from within ultimately serve to increase spiritual reward when overcome.
