האזהרה שהזהרנו מלרמות במדידת הקרקעות ובמידות ובמשקלות.
והוא אמרו: "לא תעשו עול במשפט במידה במשקל ובמשורה" (ויקרא יט, לה).
עניין הפסוק כפי שבא בקבלה: לא תעשו עוול במשפט המידה.
והוא אמרם בביאור עניין לאו זה: "'לא תעשו עול במשפט', אם לדין - כבר אמור; אם כן למה נאמר במשפט? מלמד שהמודד נקרא דין".
ושם אמרו: "במדה, זו מדידת הארץ.
כלומר מדידתה ותשברתה שיעשה את זה כפי מה שמחייבים מופתי ההנדסה בדיוק המידות וידיעת הדרכים הנכונים בהם, ואל יעשה את זה בדרכי השערה שאין בהם אמת כדרך שעושים רב הפקידים.
ו"משקל', - כולל המשקלות והמאזנים.
The prohibition against deceiving in measuring land, measures, and weights
1. The prohibition in which we were warned not to deceive in measuring land, in measures, and in weights.
2. This is as He said: "You shall not commit injustice in judgment, in measurement, in weight, or in liquid measure" (Vayikra 19:35).
3. The meaning of the verse as received by tradition: "You shall not commit injustice in the judgment of measurement."
4. And they said in explanation of this prohibition: "'You shall not commit injustice in judgment'—if it referred to legal cases, that has already been stated; so why does it say 'in judgment'? This teaches that one who measures is called a judge."
5. And there they said: "'In measurement'—this refers to measuring land."
6. That is, its measurement and its calculation must be done according to what is required by the proofs of geometry, with precise measurements and knowledge of the correct methods, and one should not do this by estimation, which is not accurate, as most officials do.
7. And 'in weight'—this includes weights and scales.
