I was pleased to receive your letter from the 19th of Sivan, in which you write how you merited to see the holy face of the Rebbe Rashab (may his merit protect us) and also to hear Torah from him. Since, as you wrote, this was on Shavuos, and although it seems from your letter that you do not clearly remember the teaching you heard, it is well known what is brought in several places—and our master the Alter Rebbe, author of Shulchan Aruch and Tanya, brings this as a halachic ruling in his Laws of Torah Study (chapter 2, section 10): "In the future to come they will remind him every teaching he forgot due to circumstances beyond his control... And even now this Torah ascends above... Forgetfulness comes from the side of kelipah and cannot reach higher than the throne..." From this it is understood that above—in his Torah—forgetfulness has no effect whatsoever.

As per your request, when I am at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe (of blessed memory), I will read your note. May it be G‑d's will that you will have good news in all matters about which you wrote in your note.

Enclosed is an excerpt from a sichah given on Shabbos Mevarchim Sivan. In truth, its content applies all year long since both giving and receiving the Torah happen every day—as we say in the blessing: "Who gives the Torah," in present tense. It is appropriate to publicize its content in broader circles in a suitable manner.
