במענה על מכתבו מט"ז טבת
א) בטח קיבל בעתו מכתבי מט"ז טבת בצירוף הקונט' ליט"כ (ולפלא שלא אישר קבלתם ע"ע), וכן הפ"ש ע"י שלוחינו האברכים שיחיו, ובודאי מסרו לו ג"כ העקז' מההמשך דשנה זו ויאשר זה.
ב) הנמצא - במחנו מלפנים - של נפנה ושל אותיות הס"ת ימסרו למי שיהי' שם אחראי בעד הדפסה (אם ידע הר"ד משם) או לר"ד (אם נשאר הוא שם). ויודיעני, ואז אכניס תמורתם. ומטובו לאמר להר"ב שי' גאראד' שינכה מהסכום שבקשתיו לשלוח על ההדפסה לפאקינג, את הסכום שימסר שם ע"י כת"ר מהנ"ל. קבלות נפנה ע"פ רשימתו - נשלחים לו היום.
ג) מאמרי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א (בלה"ק) נמצאים עתה בדפוס. המאמרים שבאידית וס' השיחות נדפסו בפאקינג ואכתוב שישלחו כמה עקז' לכת"ר בעד הישיבה כבקשתו. ובתנאי אשר חלק ממחירם נשלם מקרן המצות של המל"ח וחלק תשלמו אתם.
וכמו שכתב במכתבו עד"ז.
ד) איני יודע מאיזה סבה ומי האשם, אבל כנראה שאין נפנה, במדינתו עתה, עומד במצב שצ"ל עומד ושבטח הי' יכול להיות עומד בהשתדלות הראוי'. וא"א מרחוק במקום לדעת על בוריו אופני התיקון בזה, בפרט שאיני מכיר כ"כ בטיב האנשים שצריך להעסיקם בזה ומצבם הפרטי. ובאשר שכת"ר יודע אותם ונמצא על אתר נכון ואולי גם מוכרח שישתדל באופן המתאים בהטבת מצב נפנה ושיכלולו ככל האפשריות. וידועה בזה השקפתי מאז שצריך להרחיב חוג המשתתפים בנפנה ולא להצטמצם בתמימים וכיו"ב בלבד. והאריכות בכ"ז לדכוותי' אך למותר.
...עלי הטיל כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש עניני ב"ר והדפסה... כ"ק מו"ח אד"ש משתדל ומתעסק בכ"ז, והרבה יותר מכפי שמשערים הבריות.
...נשמע ע"ד המאסר... ואסיים במרז"ל (תענית כט, ב, והובא באחרונים להלכה למעשה) בר ישראל דאית לי' דינא בהדי נכרי... לימצי נפשי' באדר דבריא מזלי'. ובסוטה (יב, ב) ולחד מ"ד באדר ראשון נולד משה. וידוע הפי' בדא"ח דמזלי' של ישראל הוא האין (לקו"ת ר"פ האזינו ועוד).

In response to your letter from the 16th of Teves: a) You surely received my letter from the 16th of Teves along with the kuntres for Likkutei Torah (and it is surprising you have not yet confirmed receipt), as well as the Pidyon Shevuyim through our emissaries, the Avrechim—certainly they also delivered to you the copies from this year's hemshech; please confirm this.
b) The items found—previously in our camp—of Nifneh and the letters of the Sefer Torah should be given to whoever is responsible there for printing (if Reb D. from there knows), or to Reb D. (if he remains there). Let me know, and I will deposit their equivalent. Please inform Reb B. Garad that he should deduct from the sum I requested for printing in Pocking the amount that will be given there by your honor from these items. Receipts for Nifneh according to his list are being sent to him today.
c) The maamarim of my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlit"a (in Lashon HaKodesh), are now at print. The maamarim in Yiddish and Sefer HaSichos were printed in Pocking and I will write that several copies be sent to your honor for the yeshivah as you requested. On condition that part of their price is paid from Keren HaMitzvos of Melach and part you will pay yourselves—as you wrote in your letter accordingly.
d) I do not know for what reason or who is at fault, but apparently Nifneh in his country is not currently in the state it should be and certainly could have been with proper effort. It is impossible from afar to know exactly how to correct this, especially since I am not so familiar with those who need to be involved or their personal situations. Since your honor knows them and is present on site, it is proper—and perhaps necessary—that you work appropriately to improve Nifneh's situation and include as many participants as possible. My view has always been that one should broaden participation in Nifneh and not limit it only to Temimim or similar groups. This elaboration is only for your honor; it is otherwise unnecessary.
...My father-in-law, the Rebbe admu"sh assigned me matters of Beis Rivkah and printing... My father-in-law admu"sh strives and involves himself in all this—much more than people imagine...
We have heard about the imprisonment... I will conclude with what our Sages said (Taanis 29b, also cited by later authorities): "A Jew who has a case with a non-Jew... should seek judgment during Adar because his mazal is strong." And in Sotah (12b), according to one opinion Moshe was born in Adar Rishon. It is known in Chassidus that Israel's mazal is 'the nothingness' (see Likkutei Torah beginning of Haazinu and elsewhere).
