דער גענויער טייטש פון ראש השנה איז די קאפ פון יאר; ערקלערן אונזערע חכמים אז פארוואס ווערט עס אנגערופן ניט תחלת - אנהייבס - השנה, נאר ראש השנה, ווייל אזוי ווי די קאפ פירט אן מיט דעם גאנצען קערפער, אזוי דארפען אויך די גוטע רעזאלושנס אין פירונגען וואס מען נעמט אן אויף זיך ראש השנה, אנפירן מיט'ן גאנצן יאר.
און דאס איז אויך אונזער וואונש, אז אין דעם נייען יאר זאלן מיר אלע גיין פארווערטס אין אונזער גייסטיקער ענטוויקלונג און אין דער ערפילונג פון אונזערע פליכטן און אין דער דורכפירונג לפועל פון אלע אונזערע גוטע מחשבות און פלענער.
מיר האפן, אז דיזער בריוו וועט אייך אין בעסטן געזונד טרעפן; עס וואונדערט אונז וואס מיר האבן פון אייך שוין אזא לאנגע צייט ניט געהערט.

The precise meaning of Rosh Hashanah is "the head of the year." Our Sages explain that it is called not "the beginning" (techilat) of the year but rather "the head" (rosh) because just as the head directs the entire body, so too should the good resolutions and conduct we accept upon ourselves on Rosh Hashanah direct us throughout the entire year.
This is also our wish: that in this new year we should all advance in our spiritual development, in fulfilling our obligations, and in bringing to fruition all our good thoughts and plans.
We hope this letter finds you in the best of health; we are surprised that we have not heard from you for such a long time.
