במענה על מכתבו.
... צלצלתי לו ובקשתיו ע"פ ציווי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א לבוא לניויארק על משך יום יומים. וכיוון שהי' על ידי, עלי לסדר ע"ד ההוצאות, אם עדיין לא החזירום לו ומטובו להודיעני.
בודאי ימשוך עתה השתדלותו, ע"ד הנדבה להפצת גליוני של"ה אצל אלו שדבר עמהם בזה ומאן דמוסיף מוסיפין לו.
ואף דמבואר - לקו"ת תצא ע"פ וגלחה. ובארוכה בדרך מצותיך מצות תגלחת מצורע כשיטהר - שהשתדלות יתירה אך למותר וגם מקלקלת, היינו בנוגע לפרנסה, וכמש"ש הטעם כי מזונותיו קצובין משא"כ בעניני תומ"צ, כמובן.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter. ... I called him and requested, according to the instruction of my father-in-law the Rebbe shlita, that he come to New York for a day or two. And since it was through me, I must arrange regarding the expenses, if they have not yet been reimbursed to him; please let me know.
Certainly you will now continue your efforts regarding the donation for distributing the Shaloh leaflets among those with whom you spoke about this matter, and "one who increases is given more." And even though it is explained—in Likkutei Torah Teitzei on the verse "VeGilcha" (and at length in Derech Mitzvosecha, mitzvah of shaving the metzora when he becomes pure)—that excessive effort is unnecessary and even detrimental, this applies regarding livelihood, as it says there: because one's sustenance is fixed. This is not so in matters of Torah and mitzvos, as is understood.
With blessings for immediate teshuvah and immediate redemption.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while extra effort in earning a livelihood can be counterproductive since sustenance is decreed from Above, in matters of Torah and mitzvos one should always increase their efforts—such efforts only bring added blessing.
