בשבוע העבר ביקר אותנו דודו גרשון שי' בר' מאיר סופר מהעיר וואלדאסטא, דזא., אשר היתה התעוררות במחנו לשלוח ס"ת לאירופא ודודו שי' מלא ידנו להיות שלוחי מצוה בזה. וכבר קנינו הס"ת ונשלח אותה בקרב הימים.
בבקרו אצל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א נתעוררה אצלו בכלל התעוררות טובה להשתדל להשתתף בעבודת העזרה הרוחנית לטובת אחינו המוצלים באירופא אשר מתנהלת מאת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א ע"י המרכז לעניני חנוך ומחנה ישראל.
ובראותי גודל יראת הכבוד והחיבה שלבו של דודו שי' רוחש לכת"ר שי' אמרתי לבקש את כת"ר שי' לכתוב אליו לעוררו ולחזקו בזה ביתר שאת.
דרך אגב סיפר לי אשר אביו (היינו זקנו של כת"ר) כתב ס"ת בעת הולדת אחד האדמו"רים. הידוע לו פרטים בזה?
בטח ראה הערותי בסו"ס תורת שלום וההגדה עם המ"מ וכו'. ואם יש לו איזה הערות בכהנ"ל, ודאי יודיעני. ברם אחרי שנדפסה נולד לי ספק במה שכתבתי שם ע"ד כונת אותיות השם באמירת הלל הגדול, שהוא שייך לרבים (שמעטים כמותה בסי' אדה"ז), שהרי בודאי לא העתיק אדה"ז בכת"י הסי' את הקאפיטל, אלא הורה שכאן בתפלת שבת צריך להדפיסו. וא"כ הרי אפשר (אף שדחוק קצת) שאותיות השם העמיד המדפיס מדעת עצמו (בהעתיקו הקאפיטל עם האותיות מסי' האריז"ל). וע"ד מה ששמעתי מספרים כגון דא בנוגע לנקוד השמות בשמו"ע.

כתב ס"ת: על כך השיב: הנה ח"י אדר תש"א שלח כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א מכתב לאבי מורי יחי'... בזה"ל, בשנת תר"מ - בשנה שנולדתי - כתב הוד כ"ק אאמו"ר הרה"ק זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע ספר תורה, והי' אז ארבע סופרי סת"ם ממקושרי הוד כ"ק אאזמו"ר, ובחר הוד כ"ק אאזמו"ר החסיד ז"ל לכתוב את הס"ת.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
Last week we were visited by David Gershon (may he live), son of Reb Meir Sofer from the city of Valdosta, Georgia. There was an awakening in our camp to send a Sefer Torah to Europe, and David (may he live) filled our hands to be emissaries for this mitzvah. We have already purchased the Sefer Torah and will send it in the coming days.
During his visit with my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, he experienced a general positive awakening to participate in spiritual aid for the benefit of our rescued brethren in Europe. This work is being led by my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita, through the Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch and Machane Israel.
Seeing the great reverence and affection that David (may he live) feels toward your honor (may you live), I decided to ask you to write to him—to inspire and strengthen him further in this matter.
Incidentally, he told me that his father (that is, your grandfather) wrote a Sefer Torah at the birth of one of the Rebbes. Do you know any details about this?
Surely you have seen my notes at the end of Torat Shalom and in the Haggadah with sources, etc. If you have any comments on these matters, please let me know.
However, after it was printed I had a doubt regarding what I wrote there about the intention behind the letters of G-d's name in reciting Hallel HaGadol—that it applies to congregations (which is rare according to Siman of Admor Hazaken). For surely Admor Hazaken did not copy that chapter into his handwritten Siman but instructed that here in Shabbat prayers it should be printed. Therefore it is possible (even if somewhat forced) that the printer inserted G-d's name letters on his own when copying the chapter with those letters from Siman HaAriZal. Similarly, I have heard such stories regarding vowelization of names in Shemoneh Esrei.
