בהמשך למכתבי אשר בטח כבר קבלו, הנה מטובו להודיע הפרטים גם...
ב) מה החליטו בענין לימוד פוסק ובכלל לימוד להוראה או לאומנות שו"ב, ולכאורה כנראה בהרשימה הנה היותר קשיש הוא בהכיתה שלהם בגיל כ"א, ורובם הם בני כ' שנה, וא"כ מהו החפזון בלימוד להוראה טרם למדו איזה שנים גפ"ת, ואולי לפי התנאים באה"ק ת"ו מוכרח הדבר, ובטח יודיע נוספות בזה.
ג) במענה על שאלתו, כשלומדים בהאולם (זאל) שנה וחצי אם מספיק להעברה ללימוד לעצמו (פאר זיך) הנה בד"כ זמן מספיק הוא ומובן שיש יוצא מכלל זה מצד כשרונותיו, ובשני קצות, או שמספיק בעדם גם שנה, או כאלה שצריכים יותר משנה ומחצה, אבל בכלל הוא כנ"ל, שהתלמידים צריכים לדעת שזמן הרגיל הוא שנה וחצי, ורק בהשתדלות אפשר לקצר הזמן, ומי שנשאר יותר זמן הרי זה הוראה שאין משתמש בכשרונותיו כדבעי.
ד) כבר מלתי אמורה לכמה מהנהלת הישיבות, שכמו שאלו שעליהם מוטל החוב להספקת עניני הכספים אינם מחכים לזרוז ע"ד החפוש אחרי האמצעים והגדלתם, הרי עוד יותר מוכרח הדבר בהגדלת האישים היינו התלמידים הן בכמות (מספ' הת') והן באיכותם, והעיקר בכמות התלמידים, וכידוע מרז"ל שבכדי שיהי' מאה יוצאים למשנה כו' הרי צ"ל אלף נכנסים למקרא, ומלבד שזה מוכרח יותר מחפוש האמצעים כי ישיבה סו"ס הרי תכליתה רוחניות, וא"כ רוחני['] קודם לגשמי' הרי עוד נוסף בזה כי הגדלת מספר התלמידים ממשיך למעלה תוספת באמצעים הקצובים בשביל ישיבה ומוסד חינוך זה, ואז כשמחפשים למטה דרכים בדרכי הטבע הגדלת האמצעים יש מה להמשיך, משא"כ אם אין מוסיפין מלמעלה מה תועיל ההשתדלות בהגדלת האמצעים, כיון שאין מה להמשיך, והוא ע"ד המבואר בכ"מ בדא"ח, בענין הפרנסה, שלבושים גדולים יותר מכפי המדה אינם מועילים ובמילא ה"ה מבלבלים וכו'.
להכתה הלומדת דא"ח רק בש"ק - כדאי להוסיף, עכ"פ פ"א, לימוד זה גם בחול.

In continuation to my letter which you have surely already received, please be so kind as to inform me of the details as well...
b) What was decided regarding studying to become a posek and in general about learning for semichah or for the profession of shochet and bodek? It appears from the list that the oldest in their class is twenty-one years old and most are twenty. If so, why is there such haste to begin training for semichah before they have studied Gemara with Tosafos for several years? Perhaps due to conditions in Eretz HaKodesh this is necessary. Certainly you will inform me further about this.
c) In response to your question: if one studies in the zal (study hall) for a year and a half, is that sufficient before moving on to independent study? Generally, this is enough time. Of course, there are exceptions depending on individual talents—some may need only a year; others more than a year and a half. But overall, as above: students should know that the standard period is a year and a half; only with special effort can it be shortened. If someone remains longer than this period, it indicates he is not utilizing his abilities properly.
d) I have already told several yeshivah administrators that just as those responsible for providing financial resources do not wait for encouragement to seek out and increase funds, so too—and even more so—is it necessary to increase people; that is, students both in quantity (number of students) and quality. The main thing is increasing the number of students. As our Sages teach: "In order that one hundred emerge for Mishnah... a thousand must enter for Mikra." Not only is this more essential than seeking resources—since ultimately a yeshivah's purpose is spiritual and thus spiritual comes before material—but also because increasing student numbers draws down additional resources from Above for this yeshivah and educational institution. Then when one seeks natural means below to increase resources, there is something to draw down; whereas if nothing has been added above, what will efforts below help? For there is nothing to draw down. This is similar to what is explained in many places in Chassidus regarding livelihood: garments larger than one's measure do not help and only cause confusion.
For the class that studies Chassidus only on Shabbos—it would be worthwhile to add at least once during the week as well.
