...כל שנים עשר חדש אלו דשנת ההסתלקות* מוכשרים ביותר לחיזוק ההתקשרות עם נשיאנו הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ.
וההשתתפות בחלוקת הש"ס זו, תקנה שכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ השתדל בחיזוקה והפצתה, הנה, נוסף על שאר הענינים שבזה, תוסיף אומץ גם היא בהתקשרותנו הנ"ל, ללכת בדרכיו אשר הורנו ונלכה באורחותיו נצח סלה ועד.

All these twelve months of the year of histalkus are especially suited for strengthening the hiskashrus (connection) with our Nasi, that is, my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m. Participation in this division of Shas—a practice that my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, worked to strengthen and spread—besides all its other aspects, will also add strength to our aforementioned connection, to follow in his ways as he taught us and to walk in his paths forever.
See Shabbos (152b) regarding Shmuel HaNavi: "Within twelve months it was." And although even after this period it is still possible [to connect], because: (a) A Jewish person through his Torah and service can reach even beneath the Throne of Glory (see there in Chiddushei Aggados Maharsha), and even higher than that. (b) When the soul desires, it descends even afterwards (Tosafos s.v. veNishmaso there 153a). And indeed, shepherds of Israel desire this, for they do not abandon their flock (my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, wrote about his father—the Rebbe Maharash n"a). However, it is not as easy or straightforward, as is obvious. And this is not the place to elaborate.
Summary
The letter teaches that during the year following a Rebbe's histalkus, efforts like communal Torah study are especially effective for deepening one's connection to him. Even after this period, connection remains possible but requires greater effort.
